I love watching things like Roadkill and other motoring shows but haven't bothered for a few years since You Tube started taking them off. Now the technologically illiterate me has realised that there's a Motor Trend App, However, on reading some of the App reviews I get the impression it's either brilliant or a rubbish App. Can anyone who actually uses it let me know if it's worth it? £40 for a year seems to be fairly reasonable. I know there's a 2-week freebie period but I'd prefer to know what you guys have actually encountered - any issues, anything to look out for etc.

I have been using the Motortrend app for a couple of years, you are better off just going to the motortrend website rather than using the app unless you are on your iPad. It is a bit clunky and can sometimes be difficult to find the show you are after but it is worth the £40 - best show is Roadkill garage and engine masters. P.

Good to Know - I will be using it either via the Laptop or the Firestick. Sounds like a good plan - thanks.

Some shows (eg Wheeler Dealers, Fast & Loud) don't have every episode available in the UK.
That's a Discovery channel thing.
Motor Trend is also great when racing gets going again.

I use the app on the Firestick and used to be able to login with a VPN switched on to watch the American episodes the UK didn't get. however with the latest app update it doesn't want to load with a VPN active

I use it and I don't mind the $60 pa charge - It was working on the big telly in t'sitting room but has now stopped for some reason but, it still works on the laptop, iPad, and the Roku.

An alternative which I do is to have the Motortrend add on for Amazon prime (assuming one has that in the first place)
Works fairly well for searching for stuff, and convenient for me to be able to watch on the TV through my Xbox, but there are a couple of shows that for some reason haven't made it on there due to some sort of licensing issues, namely the $3k hooptie challenge and some of the earlier seasons of Hot Rod Garage
One thing to note is that they've stopped doing the Roadkill Extra's lately, which were shorter, sometimes interesting snippets posted every weekday. There's still plenty of stuff to watch on there though

Glad I am not the only one that has a problem using it on the big screen - my VPN still works so can see the entire catalogue, might avoid upgrading then! P.

I pay monthly and sign up every few months then cancel again for a few. I don’t find the stuff i want to watch gets released regularly enough to pay all year round. I actually have been preferring Hot Rod Garage and Faster with Finnegan to the traditional Roadkill stuff recently...

I believe the reason that random series become unavailable is due to licensing. They get sold or licenced to other channels for a period of time. I've seen the same thing happen on Netflix. They do eventually become available again.

They do eventually become available again. They are indeed. With the UK, Sky will have alot to answer for on that. Why would they want you to pay £45 a year for a subsciption when a £70 a month juicy Sky Contract would yield a better return that they've been familiar with for years? Yup, I'm also an MTOD subscriber . Like many, I watch it for a few series: The favourites have to be between RoadKill Garage and Engine Masters. The latter is very good IMHO. OK, the testing could be challenged, but it is good to see them do it the way they do and explain what they believe to be the case, and admit they don't know everything . There are alot of shows on there. Many of the Wheeler Dealers re-runs are on there from the early days.

Yup, another one that has it here. If it was only me in the house it would be the only subscription channel I have. App is clunky but a lot more reliable than it was, I have a chromecast so ping it from the app on my phone to the TV. Roadkill, Roadkill Garage, Hot Rod Garage and Dirt Every Day (even if you're not into off roading if you like Roadkill I reckon you'll like DED too) plus some of the other bits and pieces on there make it well worth the 2 pints a month it costs in my opinion. I don't really watch any of the non MTOD series, the appeal of Roadkill is that it's 99% free from Rick Rawlings...

Yes Richard is a bit of self-interested Richard isn't he? I do like what Aaron Kaufman did in the earlier series of Fast N Loud, but once he went it simply wasn't so much fun. I'm sure Richard's a very talented businessman but he does come across as a self indulgent wiener... 3 episodes of Roadkill this evening

I like motor trend, there's some good stuff, but not enough for my taste to warrent paying for it all year round. They have a monthly subscription so you don't have to commit to a contract. I generally subscribe to for a couple of months, watch everything that interests me then cancel the subscription. I'll then leave it a few months for some more content to arrive then sign back up. Works well for me👍
