I've just bought an '86 Audi 80 Quattro. All is good apart from the engines running on 4,instead of 5. Haven't really had a chance to investigate this, but if its all gone Pete Tong, how difficult would it be to transplant a 1.8T ? only thinking of this lump, because they seem to be pretty plentiful and very tuneable, also being an Audi unit, would it be a relatively painless swap,or am I kidding myself!?

oh and to give you an idea. several garages charge a roll in roll out fee of ££££'s for a 1.8t transplant. this includes carrying ovr the whole electrics form the donor car inc. dash guages etc..

Pics please! ;D I think I would be tempted to keep hold of the original engine too, if it isn't knackered. Like Suffolkpaul sez, check all the 'lectrics

Keep a 5-cylinder engine in it, it might be less tuneable than the VAG 1.8T job, but they sound curse word in comparison.

Think you're right. They knock out about 140 brake I think, with the original lump. But it does seem to be a smooth engine................
