Managed to just about get this out this week. rmad and having a chat about the hardest cars, or at least aspect of cars to get right when modifying, plus some news, and some super awesome heroes of the week. Somes light massaging to bits of it as we work out what is working and what isn't. Likely we'll have a little Christmas break and return in the new year. In the mean time, what have been the hardest cars/bits of cars to get right for you?

Unless one is starting with a really badly engineered car, the hardest thing when modifying is to avoid losing the original vehicle's best features, which can be refinement, handling, reliability, practicality, comfort, style, etc. Anything post 1980 is difficult to improve in some aspects, without detriment to others.

Not got time to watch the whole video yet, but I wouldn't say a particular car is hard to get right, but rather that every style or "scene" is hard to get right. The ratio of "right" cars versus "not quite there" cars is really high in every scene.

Both of those are good points. stealthstylz I think rmad's point about being influenced by a car, but not quite getting it spot on is probably the case with most things that just miss the mark a bit.

With popular cars to modify, there also sometimes seems to be the perception that there is only one 'correct' way to modify them. That then becomes much copied, with varying degrees of success - others have commented in the past that those cars also suffer from non car enhusiasts jumping on the bandwagon, which doesn't help. Regarding etypephil 's comment on improving, I suspect that there is also the issue of the perceived wisdom for some cars not always being correct, which doesn't help.
In terms of hardest car to modify right,I reckon that really popular stuff can sometimes be surprisingly difficult, as there are so many entrenched views on how those cars should be done. There is also the issue of what the owner / modifier wants to achieve*, which may not be appreciated by all those viewing the resulting car, as they are viewing it in light of the aforementioned entrenched views & it doesn't fit the tick boxes. However, this does mean that something different, if done well, then really stands out!
*E.g. whilst I like the look of lowered cars & those with bigger diameter wheels, none of mine will have that as the roads I usually drive on are poorly surfaced, so I need the sidewall height, suspension travel & ground clearance!
