£2k Car Builds : Show and Tell Ep.9

REALLY pleased with how this came out, with the help of Littlepixel on the photoshops, VIP rmad and I do a bit of digging (and a bunch of research in VIP 's case) to virtually build some £2k cars that would certainly turn heads at shows. Jason casts a judgemental eye over them.

Now the question is what would you build? (and did Jason pick the right one?)



Will post up the photoshops in the thread later in the week, don't want to spoil too much (even if they are broadly in the thumbnail haha)

Building on a budget so here’s a few I’ve done






























All these were built for less than 2 grand
The red escort estate was my sons first build
When he was 15


Hopefully going to do another escort estate this year

There’s so much out there for less than £1500
Which leaves around £500 for small mods and lows
That’s all you need on a budget, great fun

An awful lot of my builds over the years have fallen into this category, and I was really pushing the limits of the ‘rules’, but I built this for 2 bag parts spend a few years ago which to me was the pinnacle of the budget builds I did.

I must be looking in the wrong places. Everything i seem to find under £1500 needs tons of work or is too new to be interesting.

Of your suggestions I think I'd mix and match a couple and have a Mooneyes Dolly/Toledo as 1) It would be cool, 2) it'd be ULEZ exempt!

Perhaps I’m losing the plot a bit??!!
But for well under 2k one of these could be quite cool modded

Massive following in Malaysia where they are called the Waja. Related to the Volvo S40 underneath, so coilovers are cheap and available.

Bosh! Retro 106 with Rallye vibes but without the price tag!

Let's pretend it's a starter, so then (going over budget obviously) I'd go with Rallye/XSI bumpers and maybe some DTM mirrors to complete the motorsport look.

Damn, I'm actually bloody considering this... no! Must finish the Puma...

They’re only very vaguely related, in that they’re based off a Mitsubishi charisma, following in protons long history of rehashing hand-me-down Mitsubishi designs.

Although the coilovers bolt up at the bottom the topmounts are totally different and need to be made from scratch. Still doable (as I have done it) but not quite a simple bolt-on.

I just bought a ropey S2 Rallye. Road legal but will need some welding, a head gasket and I'll need to find the original wheels and reupholster the front seats. But i paid €1100...

Saw the top photo and thought it was a BTCC car at some point, scrolled down and there it was 😁. The BTCC look would be my go to. I'd probably go for the 90s supertouring look with big white wheels and lowered a lot, on something that wasn't a touring car, like a Rover 200/400 R8.

If anyone did want to build that A2, I have an A2 1.4 TDI, which is already pretty much the right colour for an “Allroad” version (browny green, can’t remember the actual colour name), which had a full respray and full mechanical overhaul about 18 months ago.

We kept it as a courtesy car, but it rarely gets used.

A Google image search says yellow was a colour on the Micra K11 facelift version, not the original K11. Not the end of the world if you're not bothered or can get cheap body parts from a scrappy or eBay.
