I was casually looking up Ford dealer stickers last night and realised my Capri (Reg starting XAA 1979) isn't from East Anglia like I thought but Bournemouth. I was looking at the new style prefix and the current number plates have a dealer address which is Williams of Great Yarmouth so, I naturally thought it was from over that way. Stop me if i'm wrong about this Bournemouth thing! I'm drawing a bit of a blank finding Ford Dealers/pictures that would be in Bournemouth around 1979. Any ideas how I could find or make an educated guess of where the car was sold? I'd like to get some window stickers for it etc if possible. I did find a facebook group called "F English Ford Bournemouth" but it looks like this garage shut around the mid 70s. Heres one i did find on flickr... Hendy Lennox Ford Dealership - 17a CHRISTCHURCH RD. BOURNEMOUTH. DORSET. FEBRUARY 1988. Not sure if this was the only local one though? Just found this now on google maps!

Thanks for this its quite interesting!! Looks like the Hendy-Lennox one is probably the one I guess. Seems to have moved or have a second place as its a different address from the picture I found. The Palmerston Road area looks like it was redeveloped at some point so maybe it moved.
The F English Poole Road location is a Tesco (I think now) and I'm sure I read it was shut before 1979 so I'm thinking that might be unlikely. (on facebook it says mid 70s it shut down)
The Castle Lane West garage I found was also a Bristol Street Motors and various other dealerships. I guess this could have sold it but maybe it was more of an 80s dealership.
The Winton Garage location looks to be a small garage if its the same business that stands there now. I guess maybe a service centre.

AA as a suffix is general to Hampshire so it could just as easy be a Southampton reg, as Bournemouth generally were , EL , RU, PR.
There were of course plenty of smaller Ford outlets, Wimborne, , Wareham, Wool , also closer to the border was Keith Motors in Christchurch.

I bought a MkII Zephyr in 1979 or 1980 IIRC. It belonged to a semi retired guy who had been a valeter at Englishes and the MOT (which turned out to be a bad joke) was done by them. It was a one owner car and had been sold new by English of Poole The reg was YGT 344. I scrapped YGT with more than 6 months MOT still on it, it was terminally rotten. I bought another MK II at the same time, a Zodiac, also a local Bournemouth car, that one was YEL 873. The operative local reg letters for the 2 being GT and EL, ring any bells?
