I was sure there was a bit on the site for these specific questions, but maybe not? Anyway. My grandmother in law is in a home. It was initially a temporary thing after a bad fall, but a year later it's looking like that's where she'll see her days out. She's mid-eighties, so had a good innings. And now MIL and FIL are in the process of clearing out her actual home and they mentioned that they were going to call the scrap man for her Clio, because it's old. After they regained their hearing from me screaming 'nooooooo!', I explained that an always garaged one owner from new L-reg Clio with history up to a few years ago, original dealer plates and stickers, and a pathetically small mileage was probably worth a bit to the right person. But the question is (or questions are) how much, to whom, and how?

People looking for this sort of thing (i.e. an honest, humble low mileage retro car instead of the more usual super-desirable 'halo' car,) will look on the usual sites like AutoTrader, eBay and Car & Classic - and if it's nice and clean with lots of history/servicing paperwork and low miles will happily pay a fair (or above) price for a tidy car. There's also KGF Classic cars who often sell tidy retros that aren't always the obvious super-desirable GTIs, Turbos etc. Maybe they'd be interested? There's definitely a market for the Clio, (IMHO) as long as it gets advertised widely - ie nationally on one/all of the above and not just in the local advertising rag. Make sure to take good pictures, and get it valeted first - black tyres, silver wheels clear windows and fresh-smelling interior and steam-cleaned engine bay will all help. [edit] The question as to how much? Hmm. Probably not 'loads' but definitely more than scrap. I know nothing on Clio prices but reckon it should be more than £1k and definitely higher if the mileage is super low or you find a buyer that's super keen. Price semi-high and be prepared to haggle? |

Sounds the ideal 1st classic, I’m trying to delve back into having another small car and would be curious on what model, colour and location etc it is. Always liked the 1st edition of the Clio prior to it gaining weight!

I agree with littlepixel i was thinking its a grand all day long but if really low miles more, the price of small engine cars is really high at the moment and something not so common will possibly be a bit more insurance friendly.

Yeah, it's a total minefield. It's in the old enough to be interesting, but not really interesting enough to be interesting category. It must be eight years since I saw it last and it hasn't moved much since then. Colour? Light. Doors? At least three. Hopefully no more than that as five door Clios are ungainly looking things. Mileage is under 30 IIRC. Has the odd scuff because pensioner. Although I guess she would've been 50odd when she bought it! Location is sadly inside the M25. Bringing it over here is probably a legal minefield now, and I don't need or really want it, even though the idea of driving it home via its birthplace is an amusing one.

Just a thought is it worth asking on here for someone to help you out by going round and taking some pics for you ? or is that just not a practical option. is it old enough to advertise it on here ? there are a hell of a lot of decent guys on here  |

What engine/spec is it? Car prices are generally pretty inflated at the moment so if it's immaculate and attractive it may well do very well.

I doubt they'll attract the Ford tax of similar cars, but 90s stuff is getting stronger value wise, with cat prices from these cars not helping one bit ; they're worth more on older cars.
Assuming it's in great condition, with little work required, I'd say £1.5k is probably a sensible estimate, maybe more.
Christ, 106 Quiksilvers are over £1k all day long now, and there are folks asking more for the 1.5D dervs! The fuel prices may work in your favour with the Clio as well.
