Do you like cars that you'll never park next to in the supermarket car park?
Do you want a retro-classic that turns heads but doesn't empty your wallet?
Do you want to ride old-school but with none of the faff of carbs and points?
Do you want a small car you can sleep 2 adults in like a metal 2 man tent?
Then this may be for you! Our little 1987 Mazda 121 Suntop LX could be the one you are looking for. The car is far from standard, even in it's stock form you will be hard pressed to see another but this one is 100% unique.
The drivetrain has been professionally replaced with Mazda Demio parts to enable the car to easily keep up with modern traffic, enable utter reliability, and allow for easy maintenance utilising modern car parts. All parts used in the conversion are stock off-the-shelf-parts except the exhaust which is stainless meaning no faff if anything does happen to fail.
The conversion includes the engine (which has been overhauled with new bearings, rings and gaskets), complete multipoint EFI system including OBDI diagnostic capabilities for fault-finding, gearbox, driveshafts, front hubs and bigger brakes, rear hubs and bigger drum brakes. This makes the car a true every day turn key car, and a pleasure to power along in.
Stock features include:
-Electric roll back full-length sunroof, with insulated headliner so no miserable cold weather mornings.
-Red striped sports (yes, really) interior with super-ahead-of-its-time flex seating, (Vauxhall Meriva eat your heart out) with a 50-50 split/fold rear bench that moves forward and back with an adjustable backrest rake, seat 5 adults or fill the boot with shopping, with ease.
It even converts into a double bed so you can lay and star gaze on those lovely summer evenings.
Modifications include:
-Resprayed in Tropicana Blue with neon pink accents.
-Kia Pride colour-coded 'big bumpers' for a look to match the number plate.
-Overhauled 16V 1.3 engine.
-Custom intake.
-Custom 2" exhaust with 2 silencers and period correct tailpipe.
-'big brake' conversion all round.
-Custom coilover suspension. (stock suspension is present)
-Deep dish steering wheel.
-Alpine H/U (original radio cassette is present and working)
-Under-dash rev counter.
-Blue crystal gearknob.
-MX5 14" softline 5 spokes.
I would happily drive this little car anywhere, it's ready to go and be enjoyed as it is or continue to mod and make your own, the choice is yours.
Insurance with all mods declared is around £260 a year with Sterling so it's a cheap little car to run all round.
Thanks for looking!
