Rolling a body shell on tyres.

Nope, but we did roll a mini (minus engine/front subframe) onto its side on some cushions once. I can't remember why we needed to, but we had to do whatever it was sharpish, as the dude whos mini it was' mum would have played hell if she had come home and found the cushions from the settee on the drive with said mini on them.
I think there were 4 or 5 of us, it was surprisingly easy.*

*may have been more people or harder than I remember. It was quite a long time ago

Not on tyres, but I rolled my Fiat 500 bare shell on an old mattress to deal with the underside welding. So much of the outer body work was getting cut off my Fiat I figured it didn’t matter if it went wrong! Very small and light car, did it on my own no problems.

Not sure I’d feel so confident with a larger heavier shell. If nothing else id be worried about denting the panels due to the weight of the car on its side?

Did a 105e Anglia a few years ago, on a mattress and some tyres.
Biggest issue we found with the mattress was that as you're trying to weld, spatter hits the material and causes fires! Not really what you want!
Ok if you can stop every few seconds, or have a good firewatcher and a bucket of water....😱

I did say it's a few years ago, and god knows where the mattress came from!
I can't remember what I did this morning......😆

I can report that cheap IKEA mattresses are impressively fireproof. I have tested thoroughly.



6 months of welding and grinding the mattress is like the surface of the moon with holes where spatter has melted holes in it, but no fire.

I've rolled a complete car (with the help of a couple of friends obvs) - rolled the window down and gently rolled it onto a (upright) spare wheel into the window aperture. No damage done.

I don't recommend doing this with a Bay kombi. Did it many years ago and the van was so bottom heavy it tried to roll back onto me
