Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. As you can probably tell by how late in the day this is getting posted, job/life is crazy busy at the moment. I'm behind on everything, Club RR (although stickers are order and email is prepped), RR Events, forum stuff in general, threads I want to post specifically. *sigh* Still on the plus side I managed to get some more scanning done over the weekend and have some cool old racing car photos to share. Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/224076/chat-thread-thing-wc-06

Took the kids to watch the Riponian Rally up in the North Yorkshire Moors yesterday. Normally go in "my" car (on my own) but was in the family Qashqai this time, the girls giggling away in the back as we hammered round the lanes between stages to see the maximum amount of cars. They don't normally get to experience me doing me driving as mum is normally with us too lol. Proper good day out. My eldest took a load of cool videos which I need to get off her phone at some point, but here's a professional one. The 131 was epic.

What a week!... been busy (but also trying to contribute more than just to this thread as well). Which means I've not shared this when it was on a live stream, but is now isolated as its own race.
Check out the legs on that Skyline
Lots of other interesting stuff in the field.

Sadly this was inevitable... there was a change of Mayor in Maria Wörth (the municipality where Reifnitz sits) and I think he was roundly less enamoured by the GTI Treffen... it was a behemoth of a thing which didn't really resemble the original concept any more... what started out as essentially a long weekend show has grown into a month long "event" with meetings, cruises, mini-shows and parties all around the lake and some of the neighbouring areas... Almost a victim of it's own success.... the Show itself became more and more just a massive party and people starting looking for low-key less commercial alternatives, which is how it ended up being nigh-on 4 weeks of disparate events.... great for car people, terrible for locals There also seemed to be some beef with promoters... they changed for the last one in 2019, and it went badly so the terminated the contract, and haven't really sought anyone else to do it.. but apparently said promoter was making noise about doing something similar elsewhere.... I imagine VW didn't really put up much of a fight either - they clearly spent a lot of money attending the event... and in the last few years, they put a GTI-Treffen on in Wolfsburg - which is logistically much easier... as they own a football stadium in the city with a massive car park The wording of the statement says that no major car events will be taking place in Maria Wörth, I guess it remains to be seen if someone starts up again somewhere else on the lake or say, Faakersee which became the unofficial pre-show hub... but the GTI-Treffen as it was will be no more.

I am sure a lot of car posers nerds will still be going to austria at that time of the year, no matter if something will be organized or not. The times of a golf gti exclusive event are looong gone anyway.

Yeah, I'm sure the other events around the lake will still keep going, and people will still travel, the official meet had become almost academic anyway.... I guess it just remains to be seen how receptive the police and the local community are once the weight of something official is removed....

Not sure tbh, not this year at least... I mean, we do still plan on going back to the area, but it won't be the same tbh, I definitely think we saw 'Peak' Wörthersee.... just happy we got to take the Mk1 and the R to (as it turns out) the last one!

Makes sense. I'm really glad I got to go too (10 years ago, unbelievably) - had a great time.
