Looking at the mileage and history you have to think of this as art, or investment.
Sadly it will never see any proper use.

Yeh saw that other day. It’s a bit strange really, mainly because of the huge leap in sale price. Normally as we know, cars will gain value in steady increments, but this has just gone waaay over the previous record. Still, if you are a say a premier league bag of wind kicker, it’s about 3 days pay, so ya know.

Think this one is a curiousity, so low mileage and original thus an attractive investment, but little provenance beyond that. For me an ex Rouse or Eggenberger championship winning car would have more "reasonable" grounds for reaching those sorts of levels..even though the figures are way beyond what I could even think about spending or necessarily would if I had infinite monies in the account.
An amazing and brutaldrivers car that will never get driven, or in all likelihood even seen by anyone until sells again.

The rumour on other forums is that the purchaser was one Chris Evans...whether this is true I have no idea... He get’s mentioned every time. Someone on a forum says ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if Chris Evans bought it’ next thing you know ‘oh Chris Evans bought that you know’. They said that about the black RS that belonged to Princess Diana that was sold late last year. Salt, pinch & large rearranged into a sentence

If a couple of bidders thought this was their only opportunity to buy such a thing and had bottomless pockets, fair play. Its nuts, but fair enough. Investment? Unlikely.

I and no doubt other's consider the price madness. That's exactly what my mate said too and he owned and recently sold one of the best Escort Cosworths that ever came up for sale in recent years. No matter what way one cuts it, 600k buys several far better dream cars. Each to their own I suppose, especially if 600k is small change.

Whenever I hear of something suddenly fetching way above market value, I start to wonder if theres price fixing going on, Previously there used to be vehicles advertised for excessive prices, just to push the market up, Ttfn Glenn Ps don't mention money laundering

Money laundering... I have seen that mentioned in several different places but... I really don't want to start an argument or take issue with anyone... however... First and foremost, I am not now, nor have I ever been a money launderer and, my understanding of the "art" is minimal at best; however, this would seem to me to be anything but money laundering or, if it is, it has been done by someone that may have less understanding of the concept than I do. My limited understanding of money laundering is that it is meant to provide a cover for illegal sources of income or, to put it another way, to provide a "reasonable" explanation for the source of one's otherwise questionable income. Usually, a cash business is used as a front - it provides a source of income without any real accountability as to how or how much money is earned. The idea is to be somewhat low key and plausible. For example, if you owned a coin operated laundromat you could funnel extra cash through the system on top of legitimate income thus "cleaning" it, in every sense of the word. The seller of the Cosworth had owned if for 14 years, so unlikely that he used it to launder his ill gotten gains unless he is extremely patient and has great foresight. Buying a car, in such a public manner and for such a high price seems to be the antithesis of money laundering - if he was under scrutiny the buyer would have to justify the funding of the purchase and not the purchase itself. So... is it a lot of money... yep. Do I understand the purchasing rationale of the insanely rich... nope. Is it money laundering... who knows, probably not though.
Edited to add; My understanding of money laundering is based purely on Breaking Bad and Ozark - other methods apply and your mileage may vary.

I think given how public the sale is it's more likely 2 people with bottomless pockets desperately wanted it. If your a billionaire 600K on that is like most of us spending a grand on a car.

I read about this and it makes me really sad, firstly because the car wasn't driven ,and now its unlikely it ever will be.Its been made into the proverbial unicorn, which is sad as it was designed and built to be driven. Secondly every tw4t with anything remotely similar will now be pushing up the prices , investors will force the costs up trying to make a big buck.We used to laugh about scrap escorts on ebay having reserves of thousands, now its become the norm as speculators are selling shiny vin plates and V5's for ridiculous amounts of money.
