Part of the updating process on my Anglia is to replace the horn. The triple air horn sounds great but doesn't always get taken seriously and sometimes doesn't even get heard. I'd like to replace it with something a little more, shall we say, pushy.
Used to be able to just get a pair of horns from the local spares shop but that doesn't exist where I live. What are my other options? I think there are some legal dB limits. I don't mind skirting around that level but at the same time I don't want anything silly that will get me in trouble or burn my wiring out.
Usual constraints: 12V, not air, slightly short of space etc etc.
Edit: also no truck or train horns.

I don't think there's any legal DB limit, just has to be "uniform and not harsh or grating"

PIAA make some good horns, a lot of the GR Yaris guys have swapped the stock horns out as the factory one sounds like a noddy car www.piaa.co.uk/lamps/lampshow.asp?ID=hornCant find it atm, but there are sound clips of each of them online

I have one of the Ebay "train" horns It's just a normal airhorn but much longer and ali rather than plastic It's much louder than any normal horn and a much deeper note than the little plastic ones, about the same as what you hear from a larger lorry
Mot man said it's legal as there is no db limit but could be inconsiderate if used inappropriately. Honestly I forgot it was there I think i've used it twice or something, but it's the only horn on the car
Why no truck type horns ? People certainly hear it

Why no train horns? Mainly because I want to be shouty and not silly when I use the horn. After a lot of deliberation, I've splashed out on a pair of PIAA Sports 400/500Hz.

I find it amusing that the small text beneath the words Sports Horn on the packaging is all about the manufacturer's range of automotive driving lights and says nothing at all about the horn. It is well written though. I could do with "a lamp with the brightness of the sun" mounted on my vehicle. Inspirational pic,
