Hi Guys
Looking for some inspiration on what car to get next , I have a budget of £10k or less , ideally needs to seat 4 of us (two adults, 2 kids) . Wanting something 6 or 8 cylinder but ideally be small enough to fit in a 20ft long garage (standard single width)
was toying with the idea of a MGB V8 however they seem out of my price range.
really wanting something up together and not a project as i work away a lot and wont have time to rebuild/project car.
if people could throw out some options that would be great .
Looking to drive it to Le Mans 24hr next year for my 40th
Thanks
Jim

E36 cab. Modern enough to be modern, old enough to be retro. Six cylinder BMW motors are lovely, will fit the four of you happily and will be excellent for cruising down to Le Mans in. Loads of spares backup, loads of potential for personalisation. Christ, I've almost talked myself into getting one.

mgb gt rear seats are not very big and once you slide the fronts back to get some legroom well it’s game over for the rear passengers

What era? I am casting about a similar conundrum and I have come up with
Triumph 2500 Rover P6 V8 Reliant Scimitar Ford Zodiac Mk IV
But I am set on a specific era and you may not be. Although the MGB idea suggests your preference is similar to mine in era.

Volvo C70. Even mint ones are cheap beyond belief.
My one owner 40,000 mile full Volvo history show quality example was only £2000. 2 poxy grand for a 2.4 litre five pot turbo cab in like new condition! That sort of pocket money normally only gets a tired yawnmobile with interstellar mileage and one foot in the scrappies and the other on a bar of soap.

If you were in New Zealand or Australia the obvious answer would be E series (EA-EL) Ford Falcon. Probably not an option in the UK though. My eldest has a Jaguar XF S 3 litre diesel which he is very pleased with. Might be too new for you though.

I think the most important question's are: what era, what body type Coupe/Cab/Saloon/Hatch, and what country. E36 cab. Modern enough to be modern, old enough to be retro. I'll be honest, I didnt know they did them in manual or red! That’s my main problem with a lot of the older bigger Japanese cars they all seem to be automatic 🤬

I'll be honest, I didnt know they did them in manual or red! That’s my main problem with a lot of the older bigger Japanese cars they all seem to be automatic 🤬 don’t dismiss them for being auto. I had my heart set on a manual legacy gt spec b and test drove one. The dealer had 6 and that was the only manual. He also had an auto wr limited so test drove that as well and ended up with that over the manual. It has tiptronic buttons on the steering wheel so still have some sort of control over gear selection. There are also a few benefits with the legacy being an auto. Ok, they are a smidge down on power compared to the manual for the safety of the transmission, but these have an auto dccd diff on them like a later Impreza sti and instead of the manual 50/50 torque split they are 70/30 rear bias until the dccd alters the bias depending on traction. Personally think it’s a little better balanced than our Impreza with 50/50 torque split. It is also great to get in it, stick it in drive and just go some mornings when I can’t be asked with the effort of changing gear.

I've seen a few nice 328i Auto cabs for sub £5k recently, quite tempting! Avoid 328i's pre September '98 to keep clear of the dreaded Nickasil bore problems. After that all is peachy, although that only really leaves the final year of E36 production if the 2.8 is your preferred tipple.

I think the most important question's are: what era, what body type Coupe/Cab/Saloon/Hatch, and what country. You've missed the most versatile body type, Wagon/Estate.

Hi guys, thanks for the ideas but a lot will not fit in a single garage and be able to open doors, I’m liking the rover p6 idea. Ideally looking for saloon/coupe really.
I'm looking for something 80’s to 60’s really.
