Having a few of these in the past all sub £150 I have nothing but praise for the MK1/2/3 models as it was the pinnacle of cheap motoring, and the ford kent engine was unrefined, shockingly noisy tappets, but sipped fuel and took a lot of abuse. I only had 1.1 kent engines in mine, and all was base spec.
It was the cheapest car I had ever bought, and the ugliest - having the rear arches really badly filled and mishaped just to get it through the MOT. It was metallic brown and I resprayed it in matt black thinking it would look cool, but it still looked really rubbish.
I just started a job an hour away and it was winter. I only had a BMW 2002 at the time and it was really bad in the snow, as well as me not wanted to rust it further, I bought this battered MOT'd Mk1 1.1 fiesta for £30 off a mate's mum. This was the first car I bought as a necessity rather than love so this meant I did not care about it one bit. It did the daily journey of 40 miles perfectly. It was good in the snow, the heaters worked, and when it needed oil I just put in whatever I could find. EP90, mower oil, 3in1 (my dad had a 5 litre carton), and when it needed spark plugs it got BMW 2002! Accidently put diesel in it and rather than get it out I just drove on, cloud of smoke in my rear mirror.
It was really comfy, could be parked anywhere unlocked (loads of rubbish and curse word inside) and once, left outside the pub overnight, someone cleaned and valeted out the interior!
I even spray painted the cloth seats black which would ruin any lighter trousers I would wear ....
Once the MOT was due the poor thing was written off due to having no sills at all, and rust holes everywhere - I was a little sad but that car never stopped or let me down apart from the odd battery terminals which never held onto the battery tightly - perfect excuse to buy a family pack of kit kats and fatten up the terminals with silver foil - improving the connection.
It was a perfect, cheap throwaway car that never let me down.
Goodbye ford fiesta - It was good knowing you.

my ex and i swapped cars for a week, i had a Passat 1.8 and hers was the fiesta 1.1l. she had a long trip, Gatwick to York and felt safer doing it in my car.she got back late on saturday and rang to break up and asked if she could keep my car another week. Not bleedin likely!!!!! i jumped in her car and drove the 25 miles to hers and i never used 4th (four speeder) most of it was motorway and i ruthlessly thrashed that poor car all the way there at 70+ in third. when i got there i reckon the engine was probably glowing but it still sounded fine.all i could hear when i pulled up was the ticking of it cooling down. after all that abuse i had serious respect for fords little car

There’s only a couple cars I would like for nostalgic purposes and one of those is a mk2 fiesta. Ideally a 1.2 c reg in grey. My mate dangerous Damo had one when I was 16 and he was 17. He didn’t have a license at the time but believed you could drive around on a provisional with L plates. We lived in a rural area and would drive about the country lanes and and some of the villages in this car. It was great fun. He drove directly at an on coming lada in this fiesta, the lada drivers bum hole clearly caved in. So did mine. I asked him “what the hell did you do that for?!?!” He replied that “he doesn’t like ladas”. At 16/17 driving on L plates alone and driving at oncoming traffic on the basis of not liking it seemed so acceptable.
The fiesta c reg just defines the optimism of youth to me. I would love to relive it.

I have had 6xMk1s and 4xMk2s over the years and I think the mk1 looks the best but mk2 drives better. 1997 I bought my first Mk1 XR2 and I thought it was great, I had come from a newer Nova SR and the increase in performance was obvious so I was far from disappointed but the inside was not really as good. I was asked a few times while I owned it if it was a replica as at 15 years old people had forgotten them and only remembered the mk2 which was similar looking but different. That first one was an A reg and was really tidy for the £1000 I paid for it. My mate bought a ratty mk2 xr2 on a B plate at the same time and he thought his was better because it was a mk2 and a hole 12 months newer than mine. Plate snobs on end of line 15 year old cars.

I’ve owned a couple, an A reg 1.1 Finesse, which my Mum had brand new & I then liberated from her when it was about a year old. Then about 30 years later a 1300 Supersport in Sunburst Red. Great little cars, I love the way the steering column is ‘out of alignment’ so Ford offset the steering wheel to compensate. So when you come out of a corner & the wheel self centres, it basically goes up & down around the rim 😀

We had a 80's 1.4S which was a great little car my wife still hankers after (I think the non assisted steering and tiny steering wheel would shock her!). In the last 9 years or so I have had a new one as a second company car every 6 months, fantastic little things, I have one more to be delivered soon. The ecoboost is great but I'm not sure I want to buy one to keep for years, hence when I retire next year we are going to search out a good 10 year old sigma engined one.
We did have a puma for a while but didn't like it, a lardy oversize slower worse handling fiesta!

First car I ever drove was a Fiesta XR2, a 1986 D reg in Diamond White. Nippy little thing for a learner! It was 1991.
Would have hated to have had my driving instructor's insurance premium. It must have been huge!
I didn't get on with her though and changed to a different instructor who had a Mk2 Golf, swore like a navvie and smoked like a steam train. I passed first time - thank you Stephanie!

Ford claim the belt is good for 150,000mls but in reality they are know to fail or be very worn out at 60k The list of items that need to be removed for a cambelt change is frightening too.

In the 1990's when my wife was pregnant she had a Mk2 XR2 and I had a Granada Scorpio hatch. As the bump grew she found it more and more difficult to drive the XR2 so we swapped cars. That Fiesta sure was a fun little car to drive. So chuckable and peppy, I loved it. We were both sad the day the front subframe rust made it uneconomical to repair so it had to go. A great little car that cost peanuts to buy, was written of twice whilst we owned it and bought back and repaired by me, and sold for more than we paid for it even without an MoT. Wish we still had it now.

Reality is there isn't space in a small hatch for 4 people, luggage and a battery big enough to give it decent range plus it would have to cost at least £30k to make any profit on it.
The future is EV's for the rich and the rest of the peasants can walk or get bus! (Politicians of all flavours seem hell bent on this because they are all largely city based so it seems we are stuck with it)

The first car I ever drove on the road was a mk1 fiesta supersport. I was a little bit under the age I should have been to drive it. I was in it with a mate of my brothers in the next village a few miles away from the one we lived in, and he asked me if I wanted to drive it home. I had driven around brands hatch a couple of times in xr3i’s so was capable of driving so I drove home. Cracking little car and went pretty well from what I remember.

I've got a 2007 Fiesta 1.4, its a great little car although I really don't look after it (never clean it!).
It was my wifes when we met and its been mine since 2018 so its been with us for 12 years all told and in that time its been really reliable.
I've done the cambelt on it twice and its had the usual servicing items, tyres, brakes and an exhaust but other than the only issue its had was a failed reverse light switch causing the gearbox to lose oil, the gear linkage getting a bit stiff needing freeing up and welding to the sills.
Its so simple to work on and its very reliable, I do around 1000 miles a month in it commuting and it gives me no trouble. If it does everything is cheap, available and easy to work on.
One of the best cars i've had.

First car was a mk1 fiesta, got many stories documented on this forum somewhere. Regret selling and would buy it back If I had the chance and somewhere to put it. Many frustrating hours and happy miles. Heater blower didn't work so relied on actual physical movement to draw heat into the car. Couldn't open the windows without exhaust fumes coming in. No music, just raw exhaust notes. Replaced pretty much everything mechanical over the years.

Had a red mk2 diesel. Great little car and just about un- stoppable in snow. Its demise came when I went to tow a mk2 Escort. Set off, a crunch sound, Escort not moved and firmly attached to my towing eye along with most of the boot floor.
