Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Things that have happened in the last week, I managed to tidy up the new menu for the site, I did some of the mobile spaing, but I need to do some more on that before I open up the beta. I didn't manage to do the club reconciliation, but I'm doing that today (as I've got the day off work), in fact it is next on my list after this. Then it is all eyes on shows/events, which is exciting. Car wise (and the reason for the day off) I went to Cardigan for a weekend away, just relaxing on the beach and all that good stuff. I took the Porsche 996 and now I have a nice list of all the things that are currently wrong with it that need fixing, not least of which is the air con (it was rather warm). I still don't know whether I'm keeping it, or selling it and splitting it in to two cars, or what the hell I'm doing really. However I will say this, it was the perfect, perfect car for a road trip (even with a windscreen sealed with electrical tape, a rattley exhaust, front bushes that need doing, non-working air con and a clock I can't set the time on because the stalk snapped last year). I sold the big Land Rover on Ebay last week for a pittance over what I paid for it. Buyer came for it on Sunday and completed the sale the way I normally do.. hassle free and punctual. I do wish more car sales were like that.
Spurred on by the experience I promply bought a Gen 7 2.0 vtec Accord which for now is so not retro its barely worth mentioning, however its MOT is due September and it is CRUSTY. Bets are on as to whether it passes, but if it fails there will be some retro plans afoot for it..

Took a trip to Caffeine and Machine yesterday evening, didn't take any photos but there was a bit of retro interest, a Nissan Bluebird estate was quite tidy, a fiat twin cam swapped Morris Minor convertible and a Ford Thames van amongst various other bits On the way back though the ever faithful Almera gave me this With a code for running lean, about 3 months to the day it last did it and I made the light go away with some MAF cleaner, guess I might have to get a new MAF, or see how long another spray of the good stuff will last me 😂

I had threads, but the doctor gave me some antibiotics and it cleared up.
Saw a nice 106 Quicksilver parked up today. Wouldn't mind that parked in my garage one little bit.

I'm filming a wee explanation for the channel but in a nut shell: If there is no race car to tow, the point of a tow car is hard to argue, particularly if its maintenance prevents you from finishing said race car!

A couple of very cool things happened over the past week or so. First up was the visit of Jarmo all the way from Estonia who turned the Speedster into this: The man himself taking it for a spin after the fact. On Sunday I organized a meet up of GR86 owners here in Switzerland.

Evicted a mouse from the Lanchester. Thankfully no real harm done, just the hessian covering the underside of the seat base and a very small fresh nest to remove. Looks like it was a crime of opportunity rather than an infestation. Then set up a Patreon to go alongside my other obligations since work has been a bit wobbly over the last few months so I'm hoping by throwing some things out there something will stick: www.patreon.com/NoExpenseSpent

I spent Saturday at Oulton Park, some sort of French car day (I should really start a thread for that at some point) and amongst other things a couple of 2CV races on track. Entertaining as always, and I got lots of practice at panning with slow shutter speeds! The track action was curtailed by the weather, huge storm and flash floods everywhere, track was far too wet so the final race was cancelled. That was an interesting drive home in the Mk1, wading through flood puddles across back country lanes and trying to see through a screen swept by the slowest wipers in the world. This week I'm cleaning up the Golf, or at least trying to in between thunderstorms and heavy rain showers. Summer eh? The weather was so much better back when I was in my forties (just over a week ago ).

A belated happy birthday, DarrenW. Seeing those snails, there hasn't been a sign of life for a long time from that green race 2cv and its renault transporter.

I went here today, as I was in the area for something else. I gave them a box full of bits and hopefully within a couple of weeks they’re going to shaft me 🤣

They're not badly priced anyway though, and very good at shafting.

For a retube, balance, assembly and paint. thats half what some other places have quoted! They did the last two I had done and both were decent.

Noooo! I missed this! I'm convinced that I saw him one year at Woerthersee, a Bitter Insignia drove past and the bloke driving looked just like him. I mean, what are the odds that it was anyone but him?! I took a photo but the problem is that we took 1000+ photos a day at Woerthersee and I haven't tagged it, I'll definitely have to hunt for it ASAP. Absolute legend. The SC has always fascinated me as a kid growing up playing whichever Top Trumps set it was that had them in.

I only know about it, as he was mentioned in the RecentlyPassedAway part of german wikipedia yesterday, linked to his personal wiki page. No english version available, so probably not worth a mention in english or other wikis RPA, as nothing to link to.
