Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. It is dark at 4:30 and I don't like that at all. Less than a month until shortest day, then we're on the way to summer!! Quiet on this side of the keyboard at the moment, taking some time to recharge and really attack what I've got planned for the next six months or so. So I'll start this thread with someone who is clearly doing much more work than me, really looking forward to seeing this when it is done: Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/226095/chat-thread-back-wc-20

I managed a bit of "garage" time last week after a brief 6 month hiatus due to general life. i didnt get much done except move the new to me radial arm drill in, then relocate all the useful cupboards to "in the way" i also moved about half of some stuff I'm storing for my dad to a better spot. its very much a work in progress; moreso since I seemed to spend half the time going inside to defrost and the rest just walking about.
I also bought another project that has been on the list of want for a while, because it was ridicously cheap.
ive accepted progress for now is going to be non existant due to the lack of available time, and other priorities, so have started thinking of aims for next year; id be reasonably content to have everything tidied away by RRG, i went last year for the first time and came away really motivated, and was the same after camping this year so potentially next year some of that motivation will translate into project progress...

It is dark at 4:30 and I don't like that at all. Less than a month until shortest day, then we're on the way to summer!! I try to think that way, but when you're standing in the dark and it's cold and rainy it's quite difficult. I'm actually getting some stuff done on the project car at the moment, once I can persuade myself to actually go to the shed. I'm trying to make the most of it as I've had quite a few weeks of doing very little to it for various reasons. Regretting not doing something about the insulation at home while it was nicer, though.

I'm off to the Essen Motor Show on Friday so I need to fit my winter wheels. I hate changing wheels at the best of times, but it's really cold here so I'm going to hate it even more.

Fiesta is on its winter wheels. Fiesta is Lanoguarded. I also got lanoguarded. I think I am rusted beyond passing an MOT as it is. Luckily I'm old enough to be exempt....
Looked at a slightly down-at-heel example of a car which is almost a bucket list car. I've almost convinced myself I prefer the spec offered by the example which is on offer here. If I also convince the seller he wants to take my much-lower-than-asking offer then I may have **another** car and yes, it needs work. I have given up trying to rationalise this stupidity. I've learned that sometimes taking "not quite the car you wanted" can work out well. My '71 Galaxie was a 2nd best against a genine cop spec 429 power example I failed to import from the US due to title issues. Its a 351W 2v, but I have grown to appreciate that. So sometimes "hold out for your dreams" and sometimes "take what comes up".
If I do buy it, something has to go. Ideally something has to go even if I don't buy it. But meh.
I continue to decide the P6 is staying, going, etc. This is the issue of a "compromise" car. Its not as rowdy as most V8 cars I have enjoyed, its not as big as my yanks, its not as olde-English as my Conquest Century or Humber. It just lacks the "X factor" for me, but its very useful.... Sensible.... practical.... But is that enough? Ask me when the heater works. I may feel more enthusiastic about it then.
I've been fighting with the heater. I now have managed to get airflow through the car but sadly its all cold air.
I bought a load of stuff for the '71 Galaxie from a junkyard in Texas which has now arrived, so I feel better that I've not been scammed there.

No car work, bit bored to be honest. Bought a cement mixer & knocked up a ton of concrete for a new shed base and other bits. Discovered muscles that I forgot I had. That is all.

Waiting to tear down the Gremlin and send it for chemical dipping but decided I'd apply for the UK logbook first and in case DVLA request inspection it's being left complete for now.
Just been advised haulier is having "trailer issues" so vehicles I was expecting to land with me tomorrow are delayed.

Done my 4 shifts this week, all while checking the weather for my 4 off (love 4 long days and then 4 off) to be greeted with the promise of sunshine, possibly some cloud but absolutely NO rain. Make mental list of what car stuff I can achieve with this - wake up this morning and woukd you believe it was raining 🙄 so all I've actually managed to achieve car wise today is to buy some caliper paint and a brush.

Had a near miss with the welding on the Princess when the main steel fuel line decided to fail and dump a load of fuel right where my grinder sparks were landing while I was cleaning up some upside-down lumpy welding on the sill. Quite why it waited until I was creating ignition sources rather than, say, while I was driving down the road or filling up at the petrol station I have no idea. I feel lucky I spotted it before sparks met fuel vapour and also annoyed that it couldn't have waited until warmer weather so it was a more pleasant job to do. At least the Princess only has one fuel line, there's no tank return, so I'll replace the presumably porous 6mm steel with some nice new 6mm copper and I'll do the clamps and rubber hoses while I'm in there to future proof everything. Might as well drop the (half full, typically) fuel tank too so that I can reseat the filler neck seal properly, a job you have to remove the tank to do because of how things go together. This sort of job is exactly the sort of thing you want to be doing outside on a concrete driveway in December.

I’ve joined Club Peugeot UK…..my dad was a member in the early 80s so I’m rejoining him too, they’ve even offered him his old membership number back which is nice. He turns the Big 80 next birthday, is just about to have a replacement knee….and I’m doing this to rekindle his enthusiasm for a car he’s owned for 43 years. Anyway, I went to their AGM at Gaydon on Sunday, snapped these in the car park…. This is my 306, by point of reference here’s Dad’s 1961 Peugeot 403 (he still has it, but it’s been off the road for a good two decades now…..dry stored in a heated garage) Weirdly, when he bought that in 1982 it had done 68000 miles. In 21 years. When I bought that 306, it had done 68000 miles. In 23 years. You can maybe see why the 306 is a keeper.

It's been a long couple of weeks. But for some reason, I'm feeling awake again. Sounds odd, but I have just lacked energy for around a year, with it coming back and forth. Do I think certain things are to blame? Definitely, but that's not for here. Does that mean more car stuff is coming onto here to bore you lot? Most likely! Anyway, what stuff have I done this week? -The E91's heater pretended it had a witch dying in it for around a month; it's been vibrating at random times before that however, ever since I got the car. Last month, it actually kicked the bucket a few times. I tried to salvage what useful life was left of the heater, with the usual dirty tricks being tried, like oiling the shaft (stop sniggering you lot!). Deciding that this was futile, and that a heated seat wouldn't get me through the cold times, I went to buy one. ECP wanted £180 for a branded item, with GSF wanting more. A used one I wasn't going to gamble on, as it's not unknown for these units to go bad. With a patient wait from Autodoc, at a more reasonable £70, I threw that in, and for the first time ever, I had a near silent heater. I know Alistair will be jealous of a heater now, but I did feel his pain earlier on! -I also threw some winter wheels on. Luckily, when I got the CLK, my mate gave me some winter tyres. Winner. After I got some shonky rims that were cheap and uncracled, but rought, I got them refurbished, ceramic coated and then thrown onto the car. Just as well, since 3 of the 18s are now buckled thanks to our roads, and 2 tyres are in dire need of replacement. -I also did Gaydon. I didn't realise a French show was on, but I did spy some French chod dotted around. The MG Car Club also held their event, which looked a little odd! I do however, enjoy walking about the second 'skunk' building however. Anyway, less chat, more pics! The old fan vs. new. Someone had been here before, as the regulator is not too old. I switched this across and I was back in business with a working heater The crappy wheels when I got them: Post-refurb. Maybe they were too bling? The old wheels on the car for the last time this year: The new ones. Yes it looks worse, but it rides nicer and the winter grip is a welcome bonus, especially this week! Even the electric MGs sweat oil! As much as the MGCC day was a little bit of an Alan Partridge show, I may actually do a thread for the shots, and show what the second building has in the BMM, for those who haven't been. I may also begin to put up shots of the other shows I've done this year. It would be a pleasant way to wrap up the end of the year.

Looking at wheels to get ready for summer with the intention of putting winter tyres on the existing wheels... Also serious mini hankerings again after seeing a very clean 94 rover mini locally for very reasonable money. Yeah it seems to be a systemic problem, I'm a slightly different theme and it is doing it on mine too, so must be something somewhere out of my control. I've put in a request with Proboards support, hopefully get something moving on it today.
I'll also see if there is maybe something in the system settings that has gone a bit skew. Could even be some off Javascript going on, but it seems to be affecting a number of different places so I doubt it would be that.
Hang tight we'll get it fixed.
