And I suppose once you get into silly camber (like 3deg plus) you need to think about plates for the bolts heads to seat on the other side as well.

Would be avoiding washers guy's it really aint going to give the strength bit like using wrong stud pattern wheels on standard bolts. Another option is something we uese at work some time's supplied by super tracker ( 4 wheel alignment supplier), it is a camber toe adjustment plate and is a fiber plate that works in much the same way as the shim you pictured, eccept it is cut out at set places to suit your requirements by yourself. Hope this may be of some use to maybe the non ford guys?

I ran purpose-made shims on the back of my lowered GLSi. Basically the four bolts holding it are not 2 at the top 2 at the bottom they are 1 at the top, 2 either side, 1 at the bottom. The shims were U shaped, you put 2 at the top, and 1 either side. If I was doing it again I'd just use washers in the same ratios. To increase the camber put them at the bottom and the sides.
On the Sierra you apply some serious torque to the bolts so they shouldn't move.
I know I'm old and boring but a word of warning. Without the shims it ate tyres (as in shot to pieces after about 2000 miles). And the handling was as twitchy as curse word in the wet. With even more neg on it those problems would be exacerbated.
One other thing, if you're going to use that big 1-piece spacer thing, youll need to pull the driveshaft completely.

Cheers for that keithyboy, the more and more I research it, the more and more apparant it becomes that washers will probably be fine.....my car doesnt do more than 80mph, I NEVER have anyone on the back seats (its more a 2+2 than a 4 seater IMHO as only a child or midget could fit LOL), and its light as hell so wont be taking much strain. Oh and its FWD so just trailing arms. I think ill be okay with a couple of washers stuffed in i don't intend to be ragging it around a track anytime soon either

Johnny, lovely thread you dug up there.
They don't seem to realise that people want cars for more than just going flat out round a track.
Hands up who's bought trainers but never planned on running a marathon?
Back on subject.... was planning to give the rear brakes on the Polo a going over soonish so I'll have a look and see what can be done then. I think 4deg will be plenty for me tbh!

Those are what i was meaning, think they are about £20 a set and seriously worth using. Insurance even allow us to use them rather than write off a rear beemed car with minor tolerance issues.

You'll have to be carefull using them shims backwards, they correct the toe in you get on the rear when lowering a sierra as well as the excessive camber so you'll be suffering toe out as well, i give your rear tyres 1000 miles if your lucky with em fitted the wrong way.
My lowered XR4x4's (without shims) were wearing tyres to the metal on the inside 2" in about 1500 - 2000 miles and they only do 66% of the work on a 4x4.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Just look for your nearest local garage or body shop that has super tracker alignment gear they should be able to get em for you, or try them direct on line, usually pretty helpfull people.

This thread has thrown up some interesting stuff and after reading that Jeek from tramp drift uses washers on this 24v saff drift car, I am quite willing to give washers ago to see how they are.
After all I have never reinforced my rear turrets when I fitted the coilovers and I was told by some scare mongers that I would punch two holes in the boot as soon as I lowered it back down........ er 6000 miles later they are fine no sign of cracking or damage at all!
Good luck johnny 5-6 neg camber would look insane on the back of the datsun!!!!!!! Yo!

Me? Enough to wear the tyres but not enough to be visible. About the worst combination. And it isnt adjustable in any way.
Grr!
