I have heard before that washers/shims are avaliable to correct excessive negative camber on lowered sierras, can these be fitted upside down or sommit to induce even more negative camber. And what do these magical devices look like and where can I get them (without resorting to a thread on the FSOC forum ;D )
Thanks Robin

These'll be the kiddies: Looks like they should fit either way! Probably best to PM Steve C on FSOC to get the maker's email address. There's a thread here all about it. Keep us informed....

Thanks Jonny, I will pm him. I guess if I fit em upside down it will increase neg camber by 2.5 degree instead of reducing it by 2.5 degrees.
I am just a little aprehensive about telling the guys on FSOC forum what I plan to do they seem to get on there high horse quite quickly, and I don't want a barrage of "neg cambers bad m'kay" comments.

Google is curse word on this...can you use washers to achieve the same result? Or is that a bodge worthy of instant death?

If you read the thread in jonnysierra's link quite a few guys on the FSOC forum have used washers to do the same thing. However I would prefer to do it properly cause I am already going to commit the hiddious crimes of banding wellers, stretching tyres and killing kittens ;D

Oh now that is a straight forward logical fix isn't it, Wedgy plate! bit more lowering could be added to future menus. Woo

Might actually get on the case and order some up myself, time / cash permitting (although I'll be fitting 'em the "right" way up! ;D)
IIRC Steve C works for the McLaren F1 team so he's probably well placed to try 'em out....
I would be careful about telling anyone on FSOC what you're up to, I'm sure no-one there means any harm, the important part is that you know what you're trying to achieve, and you know the risks and the effects. And ultimately achieve the WIN!

I've been severely tempted to add a touch of camber to the rear of the Polo... but I don't have the money to go through tyres like they do

LOL It is so tempting just to unbolt the rear stub axles and knock a couple of washers in there 'just to see', but in my heart I know that once they're in they're in and they aint coming out again ;D Its like have banded steels 'just for shows'. Haha!

Doubt it will matter on the back that much relly? I suppose that on the rear of a FWD car that weighs 700kgs tyre wear isnt going to be huge anyway ;D If I have time i'll try it......

all i know is that the metro has now used 4sets of front tyres but the rear tyres are still near full tread!

all I know is that the metro has now used 4sets of front tyres but the rear tyres are still near full tread! You havnt been doing enough handbrake turns in empty carparks! Thinking on the washer thing, are stubaxles/hubcarriers like wheels in that although they're bolted on by 4 bolts, they rely on friction between the two surfaces to stop them moving side to side/up and down etc. as the bolts aren't designed to withstand that movement. Therefore the smaller surface area of the washers against the 2 surface areas will mean less friction and more likelyhood of the part moving? Yes no?

Theres not alot of friction TBH...thats why they put 4 bolts on and not 1,2 or 3...strength in numbers! If i do drop a couple of washers in mine ill be 'keying' them first. Anyways...you're pretty handy in the 'shop...cant you fab' a couple up as an experiment?
