haha, cool. I know your not that much older than me brian, but have you ever driven any of the trucks posted? and if you have what are they like compared to todays affairs? hard work I imagine. I've driven a couple of TK's and a Ford D-series in the past, not for a living mind. TK's in particular are an absolute honey to drive. I cut my wagon driving teeth back in the late 80's in an 0813 Ford Cargo (even they are rare now) and to be honest it was no better than a TK. Having said that I did some agency driving back in 2001/2002 and one of the firms I worked for had an ex-Royal Navy AWD (which was basically a Bedford TL in disguise). It was a mid-80's 14-tonner and was a fantastic tool. The enthusiastic comments I used to get off other drivers changed to outright envy when I went past them on the motorway at 65-70 (too old for a speed limiter). |

These Scammells were as tough as old boots, unfortunately in a piece of inspired thinking by Scammell's product planners  the original 8-legger Routeman was cursed by only having one drive axle. My old man drove a D-Series Ford tipper back in the 60's and remembers that as soon as anyone went off the tarmac in a Routeman, it got stuck. |

^^^^Same here^^^^ It's ridiculous....my Atego's got the big 180bhp lump and will hit the limiter way before you get to the end of a motorway slip road......with a gear left to go!! Mind you it did used to do eightystupid mph if you kept the right foot buried in the floorboards. |

Breakdown trucks are not limited! I used to work in a place that had a few ERF HGV Underlifts. Even the older one (1989) could top a ton! And I have a video somewhere of the boss's son drifting the newer one at the Rathallan roundabout off the M9!
