I'm after replacing the points on my Mazda, but i'm a touch confused about what to go for.
My local shop does Lumenition stuff, but theres 2 options
The cheaper is the Magnetic one which is around £60
The dearer is the Optical affair which is £110
Whats the difference, is it worth going Optical on an un-tuned (will have mild tuning in future) standard car?
Any help

i always use the optical one on my cars and they are spot on, the difference is amazing, better starting, better revving, no drop off like points

But do bear in mind that they can break and when they do, you're stranded unless you've got the old dizzy parts in the boot.
Not that I'm bitter or anything having had TWO failures! (one was after 40,000 miles mind...)

best thing i ever did on my mk1 escort was swop to electronic ignition, i just used the magnetic version, transformed the car for me as all of a sudden i KNEW it was gonna start every morning at 6am in the winter, it ran better at high revs as well and i manged to transfer it to my vacuumless dizzy when i swopped to 40's and better cam and it was still fine, before i had been adjusting points every couple of months to keep it running sweet.

I reckon i might go for the magnetic version The optical one seems to rely on a sensor whereas the magnetic one is well, a magnet. Simple is always better in my book (did i mention its cheaper) ;p
