Herts Scrappies - Merc to the rescue!

Hey peeps, beginning to be positive that the running problem with my 420 is not the ignition coil but in fact the ignition module - that little bit of plastic that's more expensive than several ounces of your finest columbian.

Gonna scour all the scrapyards on gods green earth to try and find one that wont charge the earth for one or somewhere that has it in the first place.

Any suggestions for breakers around here? Willing to travel in a 50 mile radius from potters bar - I know there's a big one near bicester if anyone knows the place.

There is charlie perkins yard just off the A14 at kettering can probably dig out his no tomorrow massive yard got lots of stuff from all eras. There is also one near kimbolton in a place called molesworth not sure on spelling or exact location but I have heard it is massive with allsorts including classic commercials

Perhaps the best "result" I had was for my old DOHC Sierra, the early ones had a badly designed prop - the rubbber donuts fall to bits. When mine did, I specifically wanted the later design prop as a replacement. This was about 1999 when not many DOHC models had been scrapped - but I got one delivered strapped to a small pallet the next day, for £68 all in.

There's 3 S class saloons at a yard near me, but I don't know if ones a 420 or not, but I have a spy on the inside if you want me to find out more. I can post it if that helps. Has it got to be from a 420 or will other ones fit?

It would be helpful if it was a 420, however there are loads of bits i need to rob from any of the SE ragnes. If you could find out some details i'd be most thankful.

Merc pull through again - i'm really starting to like the company.

The part is £75 + vat (for the wrong part) from GSF/ECP, i'd pay £40 for a scrappies part. Merc just charged me £35+ vat for a brand new, genuine merc part with the correct ammount of pins.

Crikey. Do you just contact your nearest dealer Tig? I had heard that Merc can be good on old classic parts, but they don't really seem to promote that fact.

Yea - rings true. Dad had a knackered centre cap on his one of his Merc alloys, all the online ones were 15-20 quid for a replacement. When he went in for service, they asked if he'd like it replacing and only wanted 4 quid for it!

I always ring mercedes first, £16 and next day delivery for a headlight lens for my old heap is pretty good i reckon.

So did you try that other one first? Be good if it was that!
