This is more a "keep me in mind if something comes up" more than a case of "I need to buy something now"...
But I have a need to own one of the following, in approximate order of Jones...
C130 coke bottle Datsun Laurel Maxda RX4 Datsun Skyline (C110???) C230 Datsun Cedric / 260 Toyota CROWN to about '77 Datsun 180B (710 I think, the coke bottle shape) Mazda RX3 Toyota Corona Mazda RX5 Toyota Carina (to about '78?)
Anything else of a similar ilk

do you wanna make an offer on my yellow carina? Would need re-registering in the UK, this should not be difficult tho as the existing french 'V5' shows the previous UK registration number.

Now I do like the delightfyully weird styling of those beasties, but whats really getting me itching is one of the more coke bottle shaped cars if you know what I mean. Didn't think you'd be parting with that as you've only recently got it? If a Laurel/Mazda doesn't turn up I'll be sniffing rund this one

I think that's an excellent shopping list. Weird thing is I rather like the coke-bottle lines of cars you have/had - FD Victor/Ventora and MkIII Cortina. Must be a child of the 70's thing..... One of those 180B's (a 610) sold recently, pic's on the Datsun forum here www.datman.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=686

Mmmmm, thats not quite the one I was thinking of. Nice though. The one I'm thinking of has a grill more like the early Toyota Corona does, but not quite so "smiley" Or is that a Violet not a bluebird? aha, this could be what I was thinking off... nicer "face" than the yellow one - or is it an illusion of B&W phtotgraphy? Ah, a mate of mine had one as a SSS coupe and thats more the front I remember off it. He sold it when I had no money. Mint car and he only got like £450 for it bbut that was like '98 or '99

Right.....
The racing car pic'd above is a 710, otherwise called Violet, and sold as 140J/160J in UK. 710 is its model code, but in USA and Canada they also used this as its name. Beware, because in the late 70's they kept these names on some of the following models and really confuse things.
The B&W car is same as yellow one in that thread, a 610 Bluebird, or 160B/180B here. B&W car is an early one without wraparound indicators, my estate was the same style and I agree nicer than later type as yellow car. To confuse things, SSS coupes had different grilles again.
Just remembered there is a red 610 saloon with early grille for sale up north somewhere, someone contacted me about it hoping it would be tax-exempt but I think it'll be '73 build date. Interested? (Sorry Mr B, don't want to steal your potential sale)

no worries, no sale pressure here! In fact, any more details of the 610? sounds interesting. 610 is a super-cool car.

I remember it being on eBay a year or two back, memory says it may have Brown & Geeson wheel trims on it. Saloons have IRS, and according to contemporary reports don't (surprisingly) drive as nicely as these.... My old estate! Sorry, I just love the look of it and I'm lucky to still regularly see it with new wings and lowered.

Mike, one with not too much work needed would be best. MOT not essential, but some vague hope of one being achieved without 7 years of hard graft... So long as the body is reasonable and the interior is all there really. And as I've never touched a rotary before I'd like a runner. RX4 still gives me wood mrec.rotary.net.nz/brochures/rx4/rx4_sedan.jpg (done as a link as its quite a big photo!) or would be my choice although, this seems to be something else again? too cool for school. one more...

Mr B is the man to talk to about 929/RX4's. AFAIK, they are pretty much identical externally whereas smaller RX3 had some differences to piston-engined 818 sister car. Given his comments about 929's driving chacteristics, RX4 must be a scary beast...
See comments in Drifting Retros thread about C130 200L. That coupe has early grille, saloon is a later one with six-pot (in any case you will find J-cars often have different grilles between saloons and coupes).

Yo Alistair K! Check mine out! Its a piston engined one like, so 929 not RX4. As always, not officially for sale, but if I could turn it into sufficient quantities of terracotta tiles, concrete, floorboards, roofing felt etc I would let a fellow tat enthusiast take custody of it.

BLIMEY!
Very few photos make me just sit back in my chair and say "blimey". But that does the trick all right.
I didn't realise they were so much the same car. I only know the 929s as the later cars.
I also don't think I can afford one that nice. I dunno what you'd want for it. But it just looks out of my budget for the moment.
If its one of those "no hurry" kind of deals PM me some details and an idea of what you reckon its worth and I'll see if I can scrape some money together and we'll see where we go from there?
Is it LHD?
