As you can see, this is a pretty tidy example of a 216 GTi TC.
It's a 1991 model with 124k miles under its belt.
I recently bought this car with the intention of using it for track days come the spring.
However... other plans, I.e: clearing off to the other side of the world which I had on the back burner when I bought this, have come to the fore, and so whilst I'm not clearing off for at least a month, I've decided to sell this off now rather than at the last minute when I have to.
Good points:
MOT until December 2007
Full 'Safety Devices' rollcage, complete with door bars - looks fairly new.
Sparco Three Point Harnesses.
17" 100+ alloys with good rubber all round.
New rear disks / pads within the last 600 miles.
G-Max springs all round.
Sigma remote alarm / immobiliser.
Interior stripped from the front seats back in order to accomodate the cage and keep the weight down.
The engine has also had a rebuild within the last two years according to the guy I bought it off, at which point it also had a new clutch, the flywheel was significantly lightened, crank balanced and lightened andit also had lightened pistons / conrods.
However... the last owner was a mechanic (20 years + experience), and did the work all himself.
He therefore didn't provide me with any receipts for the work / parts, but having owned a few 216 GTi TCs in the past, I can confirm this car revs more freely than standard and has very good performance as a result - the acceleration in second and third is particularly impressive.
Not so good points:
The radiator has seen better days - it's still holding water, and I've not had to top it up since I've owned the car (and have covered around 600 trouble free miles in it), but the core looks very ropey - £60 would see a new pattern rad in place, a secondhand one would obviously be a fair bit cheaper.
The induction kit is total pants - in the engine pic you can see I've removed the K and and filter that was in place when I bought the car, and I've been trying to source a decent cold air induction kit for it instead - I'll be refitting said K and and before the car goes, but from my experience of other GTis, a decent cold air feed would make a noticeable difference to the performance over the current set up.
The back box has developed a blow since I bought the car - sounds very throaty now, but I'm not so sure plod would be that impressed with it if they saw it.
Finally, it needs the horn wiring back up.
All in all, it's great fun to drive - the handling is exceptionally good, and if you're familiar with the D16 running gear to these you'll know it's exactly the same as fitted to phase 2 non VTEC Honda CRXs - loves to rev and be revved.
I'm actually quite sorry to see it go, but as I say, I don't want to be messing around trying to sell it at the last minute before I leave, and it's not been used all that much since I bought it anyway, so it might as well go to someone who's going to get some use out of it.
£750.
