First, let me apologise for making my first post on here an advert, but I was told that you boys would appreciate this! Secondly, I'll apologise again for just lifting the text straight from Volkstorque!
You know when you don't intend to buy anything, but something comes along and it's too good to turn down? This is one of those cars!
Last Sunday this car was going to be sold to the scrapman, but we got there first! We just had to rescue it... It's a Mk1 Jetta LX, four-door, 1.3 engine, in white. It was covered in mud and grass, having been laid up under a tree three years ago, but we've spent this week going through it and we can't believe how good it is! It's never been painted (except for the front valance), the only bit of welding it's ever had is a piece about the size of a playing card under the back, the interior is all original and mint, the steel sliding sunroof works and doesn't leak(!), basically it's just ace! The wheeltrims are original and cool, the motor is sweet, the exhaust is new (and sounds great!), it's only got 99,000 miles on it and it drives really well. It passed the MOT and I taxed it yesterday, and it'll be in the show n' shine on Sunday at Dubfreeze! There are two bad bits on it (both rather minor!) - the doors have got a few small parking dents and scratches on them, as you'd expect for a 23-year old car! Also the trims for down the side - I've got three, but there are five missing. I've put a trim tape on for now, bu the new owner can have the three and try to buy the rest as and when they turn up - ebay Germany might be the best bet.
If I was keeping it (which I can't!) I'd slam it on some wide 13" wheels and that'd be it!
I'm after £695.

WHAT!?!?! You pay scrap price for a car that get through MOT and needs trim and you want scene tax price for it?
Generous to a fault
I'll only be asking £300 more than that for mine with a brand new respray, coilovers, ATS Classics and a whole host of extras sourced over the last 12 months!

Sorry, just sensitive of folks plying their wares on the board without seeming to have any real passion for it, and instead looking to make a buck off us.

i presume this is neil davies of "headstright" 'fame? presuming so, hes probably had more active input into the retro scene that a lot on this board. He raced VWDRC for many years, and was heavily active there. If a car is worth a the price, then how much the seller originally paid for it is immaterial surely? As said, no-ones forcing you to buy it! A post count means fcuk all chaps, don't be so quick to judge. Assuming this is the right Neil - Hi Neil! From Keith & Tash

People are taking it upon themselves to police the for sale and wanted area it seems ... To clarify : This area doesn't need policing more than it is at the moment, if someone wants to come on here and their only post being about selling a car, they can... its an open membership forum. If you want a closed membership forum I suggest you go and join up with those Standard Mk2 Cortina Only Club or whatever they were called, you'll me more at home. No need to jump on Neil, particularly when you have no clue of who he is or his motives for selling.... You know what, maybe next time he can let it go for scrap and then you can all beat your chests about how wrong it is for those kind of things to happen. In the mean time,... can we have some photos please

The only reason I made that point about a minimum posting quota before posting in the FS section was to try and keep away shysters like the one who's just ripped off the escortevolution boys off to the tune of a four-figure sum.
I'm not casting aspersions on anyone's credibility, and I don't think that £695 represents some kind of 'scene tax' either- so if you're reading this Neil, don't take offence, my comments weren't aimed at you personally!!
You don't want to swap it for a Range Rover, do you??
I'll get my coat. ;D

I've got some side trim going spare to make the car complete if you're interested. £25 a piece - like poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo to get hold of too........

Blimey, that was a bit mad! ;D Good job I don't take offence too easily! Hi Keith and Tash! It is the right Neil! Second time I've bumped into you in the virtual world in as many weeks I think! ;D Thanks for the nice comments too - someone gets it! I put at the start that I apologise in advance for using the board to try to sell the car, but I thought that you lot on here might be more interested in it than the air-cooled VW people I normally talk to - not really their cup of tea so to speak. In fact, I was directed here by one of the air-cooled forums... And as far as price goes, yes I got it for less than I'm asking for it. I'll make a little bit on it. But, it's had days spent cleaning, tidying, polishing, getting it running etc. It's got 12 months MOT on it. It's got 6 months Tax on it. The price I'm asking seems to be fair for what they're going for - if I'm asking too much, then I'm sure I'd get offered less. VIP, your car sounds like a bargain, and what I'd like this one to be like if I was in a position to keep it. Unfortunately four Beetles, an E30 BMW and the daily driver Golf Mk3 are all demanding attention instead, and selling this seems like the best way of paying the rent on my garage. So I'm guessing no-one wants to buy it then? I suppose I could just ring the scrapman back up...

Well said Neil i like your diplomatic style!!! I had the same problem last year because i was trying to sell a mk 1 golf cl people had seen at Edition 38 selling for £250 for £800 ono.
Ignoring the fact that i had put 12 months tax and spent money on the car to get it throught the MOT, cleaned and polished, serviced the car, fitted a set of P-slots with new tyres and a cd stereo with speakers. I had the car for sale on another forum and had an on going saga with some idiot who pretended to be interested in the car when in fact he was more interested in wasting my weekends waiting on him. It eventually came out via rather abusive emails that he had missed out on buying the car on the weekend i bought it! I recently put my Mk 1 Passat for sale and had mistakenly typed "the only one in the country" instead of " the only one i know if in the country" and someone took the time and effort to cut and paste a picture of one parked up behind a van which turned out to be a german vehicle! somewhat petty i thought. So don't be shocked by the response bud, but ignore it, its not like your asking for millions of pounds. I remember a phrase a teacher used to say " if you don t have anything nice to say, then just say nothing."
I'm sure you'll have loads of interest at ultimate dubs, i might be parked up next to you in the mk 1 passat it'll be a race to see who can off load their motor first!
Keep ya chin up bud, good luck with the sale.
cheers
shane

Great marketing technique. 'I bought a motor for £25, fluked an MoT then I'm gonna take you for all I can get' Summary: Wazzock How has it "fluked" an MOT? I doubt Neil takes his cars to dodgy places for a bent MOT to make a quick buck. He saved a cool Jetta from the scrapman, hardly a wazzock (whatever the fcuk one of those is!!!), and has offered it for sale on a place where he was actually "recommended" to advertise it by folk who frequent here as they thought it may be of some interest. I say, drop the VZi attitude a little. the seller in question has probably done more within the VW scene than the majority of VW enthusiasts registered on here have put together!
