900cc Cinquecento engine wanted, needs to be cheap as poss. Ive got one with a kippered HG and I don't know anything else about the engine so for piece of mind wholesale replacement is probably the way to go. I know I shouldnt, but I quite like this Cinq. Its all cool though, I'm in charge of my sexuality so I wont look gay driving it. I think metrosexual is the word........

Are you sure? A headgasket change on this car is easy as anything . Engine changes are a lot more difficult. To be honest the HG is the only weak part on the engine. As long as the gearbox is ok I would just do the HG.

Ive had headgaskets done on other engines before and they never seem to last if the engines been cooked. I don't know anything about this engine so for piece of mind a replacement engine would be better IMHO. A guy 100yds away has a dead Cinq on his drive and an engine in his garden, maybe I can beg it off him..... if hes ever in.
Saying that though, ive run and driven the car and the engine sounds as sweet as a nut, the cooling system isnt pressurising from any kind of HG problem that I can see (bubbling, surging e.t.c) The "sludge" in the header tank is very minimal, and doesnt appear to be oily. No idea what it is if it isnt. Ive cleaned it all out and it hasnt returned and theres no trace of oil in the coolant. I CANT get the engine to overheat and the oil leak from the HG down the front of the block is infact from a leaky rocker cover gasket. I'm starting to think that the girl who had this car prior to me has been misinformed by a garage. There appears to be a leak from the radiator so I'm maybe thinking that its run low on coolant, overheated and been diagnosed incorrectly as HG failure. I dunno, but wouldnt be the first time Ive had a car on the cheap with a phantom HG problem. Bonus if I don't have to do any work!!
Oh and yes, the Gearbox seems fine!
Needs a thread all of its own this car.
