A while ago I was allegedly caught going 37mph in a 30 limit by the fuzz. Obviously this means I am a lunatic and must be stopped at all costs.
I got the form posted to me which says something along the lines of either paying the £60 fine within 28 days, or going to court.
Now, seeing as I detest speed traps and see them as a money generating scheme rather than a safety device (like most people), I want to ensure that it costs these bloodsucking scum much more money to process this case than £60. So I'm thinking of going to court. I am writing to the police to ask them to see the photographic evidence of this alleged heinous crime, and I have also asked for a calibration certificate for the device that they (allegedly) snapped me on. This should cost them plenty of time and therefore money.
My only concern is what will happen in court - do I have to pay legal fees? Could the fine be far larger than £60 and three points? Being an honest citizen I've never had any dealings with the Police / court system, so I'm just trying to find out what might happen!
Just as a footnote: if everybody opted for a court appearance rather than a fine, the system would collapse and the government would have to re-think ways to take money from people. They might even have to concentrate on real criminals! ;D
Any advice very welcome!
