Well as a non techie some of that's down to recommendation.

Looking to have a fairly news based portal style main page which will pull items from around the site into boxes on the first page, i.e. news, articles, car of the week, owners profile etc.

Should be done in css with good accessability.
Will have on-line gallery section, news, articles, tech tips, forum (ok to link to commercial forum such as this).

It will have a members only section so some kind of database to check names and membership nos for access.

I can e-mail a couple of sample design templates to help anyone get the idea.

As a car club project it's not going to make anyone rich, the guy who was going to do it has gone off to surf some tidal bore in brazil!!

When you said straight forward, I was under the impression that you meant standard static pages (Basic HTML). I can't help you I'm afraid. Your talking about dynamic ASP.NET pages. Thats to advanced for me at the moment. I'm currently learning myself ASP.NET at home in a 600 page book on it. I'm currently just over 250 pages through.

I'm sure someone here will be able to help you though.

IMHO you'd be better off paying a professional to get it up and running, then do the maintence yourself. Both SLOC and ASOC have curse word websites cos they didn't do it right at the beginning.

Thats true, but I know the new webmaster of ASOC's website, and hes got plans for the ASOC site.

However, I know what you mean. The ASOC site at the moment is completly rubbish, and all the members just go to the unofficial yahoo forum, which is also rubbish. It works on an email system. Where emails are sent to the site which are then displayed like a shared account, and dispatched to all the email addresses of the members.

This sort of forum, a proboard, is a much better way, as you can talk about different topics in different sections.

and they'reeasy to modify. I've added a calender, links page and I am in the process of adding a classifieds section, all using PHP and MySQL.

Well I was actually hoping there might be a couple of professionals on here!!

As I said my last professional is off to Brazil!
