Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Guy was a rampaging nutcase. Respect. (Mind you, if ever anyone wanted evidence that alcohol / grade A narcotics and firearms don't mix, then Hunter was yer man! )

Ask Kieth Richards. I think its to do with all the chemicals stopping any kind of viruses from feeding off you.

I have to say I'm not familiar with any of his work, but did he drive anything interesting?

was one of my favourite writers, i've got a copy of almost every book he wrote and i'm constantly searching for the more obscure stuff.
was gutted to hear about it today, can't believe he's gone.
at least he had the balls to live the life that HE wanted to, never sucked up to anyone, never held back from saying anything, just threw himself into it feet first.
although there were a lot of people who got curse word off by him and had trouble with him, and he wasn't the nicest guy in the world one of the things i remember the most about him is this (excerpt from his biography by e jean carroll)
-quote- i was scheduled to go to cleveland to cover David Bowie's tour for Rolling Stone. just before heding for the airport i had a meeting with Jann, at which he told me as i was now doing nothing for the magazine except writing, they couldn't afford to keep me on. i asked what he intended to pay in the way of severance. jann said it was the magazine's policy to pay no severance. i didn't think this was an entirely appropriate reward for my having worked hard as the magazine's New York bureau chief.
anyway, i took a cab to the airport and hit the road with David Bowie. when we got to memphis i called Hunter at Woody Creek. Sandy (his wife) answered. she told me Hunter was in Washington at the watergate hotel. she said that she was sure i could reach him right away in his room because they had just gotten off the phone a few moments before. i asked her how things wer going, and she said, "find, except that we're a bit worried about money. we have only four hundred dollars left in our bank account. after thats spent we don't know where any money is going to come from. thats what Hunter and i were talking about just now - our money problems."
Sandy and i chatted for a few more minutes, and then we said goodbye and i called Hunter in washington. "how are you?" he said. "well, not so great," i said. "i got fired and Jann doesn't want to give me severnace pay."
Hunter immediately said, "do you need any money? i cold let you have four hundred dollars."
-end quote-
by Timothy Ferris, friend of HST.
hows that for a great guy, sadly missed by me, who is one of the many he managed to touch with his unique way of looking at life. cheers Hunter, wish there were more people like you in this world.

You have to admire someone who writes the way he did, I was never a massive follower of his but you have to admire someone who writes what he feels instead of what's expected of them, especially nowadays when censorship and political correctness has diluted most of what we read. It's a shame to hear about his death.

Funny funny guy. Pity he died like that. He was wild fond of all things chemically enhanced, so to speak.
