I originally bought this as a tow car and used it exactly once for this purpose so with this in mind, the fact that I've done only 400 miles since the MOT in January, I have 2 other 200's that need my attention and I found out yesterday that my roof needs £4000 spent on it I'm regretably putting this little beauty up for sale.
She is a great car, I felt sorry for it because it looked so shabby, she still does (although the photos look great, they lie!) but honestly out of all the 240's I've had this by far the nicest to drive, always starts on the button (of course), bit lumpy at first then lusty, handles beautifully, superb clutch and gearbox, Firestones on the front, Simes on the rear, Michelin as spare, brakes are sharp and she pulls up in a straight line. No rust apart from surface rust inside the wheel arches and that is really hardly noticable. The previous owners had it for about 15 years and had it serviced at MOT time every year, they reckoned to have averaged 5k a year but they kept no records, the oil is golden and the engine is clean, the cambelt change was reckoned to have been done but again no records of this.
So it runs well and is pretty much rust free, the mileage is just short of 111,500 so it sounds great but the previous owners had dogs and smoked so the interior to be honest could do with being replaced with leather, it's blue cloth. The dash, headlining and plastics need a good scrub, the fuse box cover is held on with gaffer and whilst in their care it suffered vandalism at the hands of the local youth, only trim though! It needs black trim above the near side headlamp, drivers door top and bottom trim, rear near side corner trim above the bumper, off side rear fog light cover is taped and just about legal. The off side rear outside door handle needs connecting, finally the sunroof handle is missing and I've not tried opening it. Involve in South London said they can replace and fit the missing trim for about £70. So the trim is the downside, the car is a cracker and I have no time to get this minor work done with a further 5 volvos to spend on so anyone with a spare £350 can have it with MOT to January and tax to 31.12, she needed nothing for the MOT last year, the two tail lights only work with the fog light on so that might be an issue, fog light off, one tail light! It's great, buy it! Obviously it's on here and the Volvo Owners Club first then to the bay if no one fancies it! I have lots of photos if you need them!
