Hello retro fans The Retro Cars Show or Classics and Retro as it was called in 2006 will no longer be held in 2007. However Santa Pod Raceway are planning to hold our own retro car event on Saturday 7th July. Before we get started planning this event we would like some feedback from you guys in the retro scene as to whether a retro event with out the backing of a publisher would still be an attraction and is Saturday 7th July a good date?

Well if you can get the information out there, it's sure to be a sucess I feel... Target mags like Retro Ford, Practical Performance Car, Volksworld, Ultra VW, mini world etc and you're bound to attract the people you want. I'm sure you guys are able to make it work! 7th of July should be a good date, as it's gonna be warm , not sure if it'll clash with anything though, and I'd be tempted to make it a two day event, as there was LOT to see last year. There's a scene for it , so provided you can sell it to the people you want there, you can make it happen

You can always count on the 2cv lot for a good turn out, you should contact 2CVGB (www.2cvgb.com) and get an ad in the club magazine

We believe so much that there is a market for it we're putting on the Retro Rides show later in the year, this was already planned before we knew Retro Cars show wouldn't happen.
Maybe we can come to some cross promotion arrangement? Or do it as a double header event? Or just help making sure the show is known about.

Ahhh a retro meet on my birthday. Any excuse to get up to the pod for me. I reckon it'll be pretty popular if enough people know about it.

I think it will work without Retro Car mag. Its great that may still be a Retro show at the Pod. If you contact all the Classic car press and car clubs i think it should be a succesfull show.

As already posted on another forum, great idea but the date clashes with VBOA at Billing which will mean lots of potential cars and clubs not attending your event. Could you move the date?

I think it would still be a success, the Retro scene is one of the fastest growing, you just need to look at this site for proof. There are quite a few magazines now which cater for 'our' type of cars, magazines like Practical Performance as well as manafacturer specific magazines such as Performance VW, Retro Ford and the Mini magazines. With a bit of advertising in these magazines as well as letting the relavent clubs, websites and forums know about the event you should get a good turn-out. I know the majority of the members on here would be out in force so thats a good few hundred already.

Ill be there and I think you would find most retro vauxhall owners who modify there cars would still come even if it clashes with the vboa show at billing, as thats only a park and show and has got a bit boring over the years.Variety and a bit off action is a lot better ,i also think a 2 day show would be better, roll on July I say

It's not like your far from billing you'll probally find some folk will do billing one day and the retro show the next day. All sounds good from here! Can we have a retro drift area like you do at the J shows please?

Sounds good to me but the Pod really, Really, REALLY!! needs some more shade, last years show was awsome but hot & bothered girlfriends take the shine off somewhat i got probably the worst sun burns iv ever had last year at CaRS. my nose went all rubbery and hard for a week or two. MAYBE it was the pod, MAYBE it was the countless hours spent wating for the breakdown guy in a layby. who knows?

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Even if it's not a two-day show, camping the night before is always appreciated (maybe just let the food stands open for a few hours?) and would swell the figures with people unwilling to drive 3-4 hours, walk round a show, and drive back all in one day.

I got sun stroke just as a guy from Banzai was trying to interview me and just before I had to announce Retro Driver... I thought I was going to pass out when I stood up on the van's step. So yes, shade please..!!

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'm afraid the event cannot be a two day one as on the Sunday it is the GTi Festival. This gives you the option to stay over camping if you wish... it'll just be a different show the next day.
