It's brown, it shifts a bit - not a flying turd, buy my new Scirocco Storm Went up to leeds on the train, got to the guy's house and loved it before i got out of his car, parked outside the house all lovely and, erm, brown. Took it on a drive, sounds gorgeous - almost like it's got a fruity exhaust system but it's not. Leather is all there - 130k of wear but not a single tear or sag. Engine is grubby but solid. Then the fun starts.... notice a big pool of water collecting under the car. pop bonnet again and the header tank is overflowing. guy starts to fret a bit, checked the fan kicks in and out (it does), checked the temp sender works (it doesn't work the gauge, but it works the warning light). finally work out it's just a loose coolant level sender which is quickly tightened, no more leaks. haggle a bit over the bodywork (it's not 'mint' but it's solid, all the same colour, three rust blobs and just needs some elbow grease), got it for £475. Just as he gives me a reciept... cough cough cough cough splutter and it cuts out. won't start - turns over and fires and dies straight away. seller looks mortified, i'm happily sourcing the problem and he's back inside getting the cash to buy it back! turns out it's just cos it's stood for 6 months with the same tank of fuel... gave it a bit of welly, splutters a bit on the drive out of his estate, couple of miles later and it's loving it, plenty of go. came complete with a mahoosive wad of receipts from the last three owners, original service history right up to last year (VAG dealers all the way!), manual, all the booklets it came with when new.... only looked through a quater of the invoices and they total £1k alone! plus it got 48mpg down the M1 home Pics later when i go and start cleaning it!

cheers leccy windows need fettling, both are knackered so it looks like a fuse - time to go fuse hunting! just needs a bit of rubbing other than that.. mmm, rubbing. with polish of course need some specs for the car thugh, some stuff seems weird - it had standard trip computer and leccy windows but no central locking? also there's no oil pressure gauge, i thought Storms had them next to the ashtray. official figures are 0-60 in 8.3s, same as my stock G40. not had chance to try that out really being untaxed 'n all but it sounds nice! and tuning parts are much cheaper than the audi... i can see a fast-road cam in my crystal ball what the guy DID have in his garage was a Y-plate Alfasud... fully restored, shell bare metalled and repainted red, 1700 motor with full overbore, fast road cams..... already sold though, he's emigrating! so... question time. How similar is the 112bhp "DX" engine to the 8v GTI motor? Any transplantable goodies?

Dude, that SERIOUSLY rocks...
I've had 2 DX engined (GTX) 'rocco's... pretty similar lumps to 8v GTI.. My first one had a Jetex Exhaust (from downpipe to backbox) and a Ramair panel filter... and at GTI Int'l a few years ago, it outpaced a valver on the 1/4 mile.
Have you got a gauge next to the ashtray at all? both mine had Voltmeter's in (I think) Maybe the central locking is on the fritz then.. my first GTX had it, the second didn't.

aye, should be a voltmeter. gimme a shout if you want one cos i've got one here, the proper VDO item that you should have, i think you'll need some sort of trim to finish off once its in though, was gonna fit one to mine but ICBA really.

voltmeter... hmmm i think the storm went without, i found brochures on drivers-found.com and they don't seem to have one. they do make a three-gauge panel to replace the ashtray though, so i might fit that or make my own - oil pressure, volts, maybe fuel pressure? oil temp is on MFA so don't need that. it is rather tasty isn't it... might look into an exhaust but cash is a bit tight so might just enjoy it standard guz... thanks dude, i'm gonna see how it mounts and i might have that off you, how much do you want?

Looks sweet, top purchase. Only one criticism, back end looks a little higher than the front, so a little lowering may be in order. Looks fab on those rims though

yeah i noticed that but only when it's parked on the driveway - the driveway slopes slightly uphill and of course the handbrake is on so i think it's just that
