Well, at least it's exciting all this ebay selling malarky So anyway, i'm selling some alloys that i acquired for nothing. Stuck them on ebay to start at 14.99 and they've gone in the free ads today for £50. In the advert i state cash on collection and that i have them advertised elsewhere. Perhaps i should mention that i only have t'internet at work. Monday night somebody emails me to ask if i'd end the auction early, so replied saying they were in the paper for £50 so if someone turned up with that in their hand i'd end it, but not before. Tuesday, somebody else emails me and asks the same so i tell him the same, only he turns round and says he'll give me £65. Fine, i tells him, who am i to argue, but i still won't end the auction until i have cash in my hand. So he's coming from liverpool (to wiltshire) tomorrow to get them. Last night (bare with me) guy number 1 takes it upon himself to look at my other auctions and realises i accept paypal, so what does he do? emails me to say he wants them, makes a credit card payment for £50 and emails me again asking when he can pick them up? I find all this out this morning when i get to work and check my mail. FFS! Thing is, looks like this guy only checks his mail at night and i only read mine in the day. Sigh, should have just let the auction run ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Can you end a non-car auction early? I thought everything except cars had to run it's course....
anyway. if you've told him that they're in the paper for fifty notes then really he's not done anything wrong, as you've said that you're prepared to let them go for £50 outside of ebay. It's a funny situation as you were right not to end the auction until the cash was in your hand but in doing that you've got two buyers!
However man number 2 has also done no wrong, he's following the same rules you set.
someone is going to be disappointed, i'd take the £65 off the second man, email man #1 and say you've decided not to take his offer and give him his £50 back... he was a bit forward in just transferring it, you wouldn't go round to someone's house who was selling a car and pop the cash through the letterbox without shaking on a deal! man #1 can't neg you anyway as it's an outside-ebay deal.

I'd disagree. I'd sell them to the guy who's already paid. Ok so you lose a possible £15 but you've kept your word.
Also you've got the £50 in your bank a/c whereas the guy from L/pool might mess you about.
Difficult one though.

aha but £65-man saw them tuesday-day when they were for sale, £50-man transferred the money without any warning tuesday night.
all i can liken it to is standing in a car showroom, expressing an interest in a car for screen price, then walking off. wait till someone offers a bit over the screen price and then just go and thrust your original offer in the salesman's hand.
it is a very tricky one.... toss a coin!

Tell the £50 man about the offer of £65, and that you were thinking of taking it. And, had he e-mailed you before transferring cash, he would have known and saved himself a lot of hassle

update! mr bo110x has pretty much summed up what i'm doing. Emailed guy 1 to tell him i never agreed to what he did and that i had someone coming down offering £65. He has mailed back saying he'll transfer a further £30, making it a total of £70 (?! his words not mine). So, i've mailed them both, being very apologetic, saying it's turning into an email bidding war so i'm leaving it to run on ebay ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Plus it's on £41 with 4 days left now Haven't had a reply from either yet It all makes being at work very exciting
