Well dragged the saab home under it's own (ballisticly quick) steam a couple of days ago now, from somewhere around banbury to southampton where it's living at a friend's house. A friend was driving, and I was trying to keep up in my courtesy car fiesta, which was a giggle. This thing shifts HARD in-gear and considering we only had 2nd, 4th/5th (when it felt like it) to play with cannot wait to see how it goes with a full set of cogs. Are now hunting around for a gearbox, in the meantime I have been tackling the lack of headlight and the huge ammount of surface rust under the bonnet. Will get some pics up when I can. It was bought from a fellow RR'er, monsieur slammed so nice to keep it in the fold. It looking terribly moody during the fill up on the way down saarf: The stickA on the back reads: "RetroCarClub.co.uk ... cos new cars are curse word" I know it's not big or clever but it seems to be annoying a fair few people which is always a bonus. ;D Will keep updated with work as it happens. With the new find on here of a banding bloke I think track wheels are sorted if I can find some chuffing steelz for it.

In terms of plans it's all fairly simple. Fit a rather mahooosive intercooler, give all the ancilaries a good sort out, deal with the scuffs and surface rust here and there, sort out the iffy (over)fuelling, strip out and thrash around tracks this summer.
At the moment it's overboosting to 24psi and holding 20, with about 210 bhp and a large amount of torque. Which tbh is enough at the moment. Will plan more power once all the basics are done.

Drat. Wish I'd taken it for a blat around the village before you turned up to collect it now!
Lets just say that the gearbox noises didn't inspire confidence and I thought you'd be miffed if you turned up to collect it to find that most of the gearbox was spread over the road! Glad you got it home which I guess proves that my fears were unjustified.

I do love these. But sadly they feature low on the list of reality purchases, but you never know. wouldn't mind one now while i can. Hmmm I have ideas! Looks very nice already on those wheels!

The DV sounds oh-so-chavvy but compelling none-the-less in a car crash kind of way.

I was just pondering mad cAmberz, tbh though the front already has it, I know it doesn't look like it but it is slammed hard at the front - i'll try get a pic at some point.
Found a 16v na engine and box for it locally so will go get that monday and hopefully start making a working box/saab interface the same day.

Hey Tigran, what does the scaab feel like compared to ford and vaux stuff etc, i had always expected a big heavy lumbering standard volvo sort of feel. tell me i am wrong! also what kind of MPG are ya getting? cheers

It used 20 pounds of fuel in a 70mile trip. But that was all at high speeds and with a lot of full throttle. If you drive at 70 you can keep the turbo from spooling i was told, so you could get fairly decent mpg - but then that defeats the purpose of a turbo motor IMO.
I haven't driven it myself - gearbox totally gave up before I could, but it's only 1250kg's so not at all heavy. It cornered pretty well in terms of speed and I was told the feel in the steering was great. To sit in it's obviously a lot comfier and nicer than any ford or vaux stuff, and it's loaded with kit. Leccy windows, leccy metal sunroof, heated seats, cruise and other guff. Also as everyone keeps saying the seats are so damn comfy it's unreal. But the best bit is the smell you get in saabs from the leather. It's just divine.

Yeah we did at the fuel stop. They are a bit tempramental, need to get some new motors. But tbh I really don't care about them until I get a working gearbox on it.

Oh good. Thought there was a risk of frostbite if that window had refused to sort itself out! :-)

The Consumption is a bit sacry! cruise control should help. i get 140m on £20 in MR2, but then thats a diddy little 1600 w no turbot! Love the saabs interiors and always liked the seats although i cant remember how comfy they are.
