With great power comes great responamability...or something.
As predicted, by me about a month ago the gearbox is starting to give up the ghost. Which is handy actually as the clutch is bolloxed anyway so i can do both jobs in one go. The decision is - do i just wang in another standard 5 speeder (just give it a seal refurb) or do i take the car off the road for a while and spend a fair chunk of money sourcing a 4 speed chillcast case, convert it to take 5 speed cogs and all the hassle that comes with it. I'm siding with the 'lob another boggo na gearbox in and see how long it lasts this time'.

The gearboxes are still plentiful, the swap out is an engine out job but its easy enough.

Damn. Another one fooled! ;D
This car's come a long way since I dragged down from Oop North for you. Still can't believe you drove it back down south with that gearbox!
Excellent progress. Good luck with the 'box swap.

"So tigs, whatcha doing hanging around a dark southampton petrol station at late o'clock, with the bonnet lifted off?"Hmmmm, it wasn't for the view of the crappy industrial estate across the road that's for sure. Left steve's place where it was laid up (for no real reason) for a while. Car had been reliable for the last couple of months of use so didn't think to check any levels. I let the car warm up on the garage forecourt area, jumped in and drove off - but the heater is blowing cold air. Weird. Didn't want to stop on the dual carriageway so go to pull over in the garage, where it stalls on entry. It's deffo lost compression on one (or more) cylinders, and is now wizzing coolant/water out the head gasket are quicker than it goes in. So at the very best a new headgasket/new set of hydro followers and a head skim. I'm relegating myself to something more serious. Shall wait and see. But i'll get a 'new' gearbox and heavy duty clutch in at the same time, as well as fitting all the higher power bits i've gathered up whilst the engine is in pieces. RAC bloke seemed well confused by the whole concept/point of bonnet pins, weird.

Long long absence from touching this. The BMW has been taking up all my time and effort, all fixed now though. Fitted headgasket set and skimmed the head, fitted new core plugs and refitted the radiator to stop radiator leak. Much better. Now just off to MOT.
Sad news though, car's now up for sale, which sucks a lot. Ho hum.
