Inspired by a couple of members tasty Vaux's I thought id do a piece on mine. I saw this car on ebay for £275 buy it now. a quick read of the ad somehow convinced me I wanted a snot green shed & in minuits i'd hit the button. Well within minuits of getting it home I decided I didnt want a snot green shed, so set about tidying it up a bit to sell it. So I started cutting, polishing, filling painting etc, trying to get it looking reasonable. As I worked on it I kinda got attached to the old thing & it grew on me more & more. I decided to keep it & my plans for it kept on growing. Now I love it! I even sold my cherished gte to make room for the old thing. So far I have dropped it 60mm on new Spax springs & shocks. & fitted some larger temp wheels so I can fit some new brakes. I bought a set of gte recaro seats too, wich I plan on getting re trimmed in white leather & a tasty momo steering wheel. I wasnt happy with the bits of paintwork I did & the bodywork was generaly flat, faded & past its best. I also had to fit new front wings, so I bit the bullet & booked it in for a complete body resto & re spray. Its a bit expensive but this place is the nuts so it should be a fantastic job (fingers crossed!) When I get it back its engine time, I think it'd be rude not to turbo it ;D On her temporary wheels, Up....... & down..... Ill update her progress when I get it back from the paintshop

Brilliant story! It's funny how you get attatched to a car and end up spending time and money on something that most people would think wouldn't warrant it. Is it coming back the same colour? I hope so, I love it! Excellent progress so far, can't wait to see how it looks after the body resto!

Yes she is staying the original colour. It looks soo much better in real life compaired to the pics, more minty looking. No bodykit or anything, just standard bodywork. I'm thinking white racing wheels but am unsure what size to go for, maybe 15" or 16" compomotives

Those r1mz look quite good on there. Had them on our last Mk3, which I despised.

god i love these cars
my old boss had a red GTE waaaaaaay back in 87/88 . then we had a regular customer with one exactly the same colour as yours about 7 years ago - think it was a 5 door though .. And the last 'modded' one i saw locally was a very tidy black one with big alloys going like the clappers about 5 years ago now..
Bring back the mk1 astra -all is forgiven !

Loving it, can't wait to see the pics. Can only dream of my mine looking as good as your's does/will. You do see the odd C20LET coming up for sale, probably best to find a complete car as it'll work out cheaper and you can test the motor out first. Some turn up on Mig and VXON from time to time.

Bit of an update. Its back from the bodyshop, Most of the bits are bolted back on & I have washed & fitted the carpets. I put the recaros in temporarily & I'm hoping to get the big brakes on this weekend weather permitting. I fitted the new wheels today so I can have a look. I'm really happy with them! They make the green look really deep. Not that you can tell in this crappy pic but its all I have at the moment. It looks sooo much nicer in the metal. Ill take some with a decent camera soon. It should drop slightly as I hadnt long took it off the jacks. Whats the verdict?
