1971 1300 BEETLE, e bay special for refurb

1971 sorn for 2 years listed as remarkably solid for it's age, but the more you look and remove the more (or less due to rust) you find. and the hidden bodges like one 12mm wheel bolt fitted in with tape and several 14mm originals stripped. The loweredfront beam was welded out of true by 26mm a banana

Don't know if you saw 'beetle crisis' on one of the dicovery channels but as you find with older cars, theres always more problems to be found. As I'm finding with mine!

thanks for the comments, it will be pretty standard, just a bit lower on the front with different interior. the colour was going to be ford peppermint green but the family was not keen after seeing it, so now 2.5 L of white with 1L on the green mixed in.
serious work is now completed the rest is reassembly and source replacement parts as I go on.
I said over 20 years ago own another beetle, never because of the rot. But now I have one the budget is £1,500 on the road so about £400 left to spend.

on the road for over 2 months now no shakedown problems apart from a distorted rear brake drum giving slight wheel wobble now replaced.
just fitted a new headlining as the weather has been hot enough.
The wife is well happy with it. slightly over budget but on the road was less than £1,800 all in.

looking good, makes me jelous of decent paint and dash...mines marked chipped faded all over dash and some really ugly paint job from previous owner...but atlseat most rust removal was done by him so wasnt too bad. Any more pics of it?

nice car, i'd like to say it was in a state when you got it but compared to my minis it was fabulous, (i had taped up subrame mounts on mine when it arrived!)

i may considder a beetle next. minis sadly seem to be the fastest rusting cars in the world :-(
