Well, I've done some work and the list of jobs is getting smaller!!! Honest Sunroof blank painted and polished. It's a bit big for spraying with a can, but it'll do and bolted down with nice shiny stainless allen bolts Told you the exhaust was fitted New battery cables and the new battery box, fitted I put it in the wrong way round and the cables exit on the wrong side..... I won't be changing it now!!! I've got some heavy steel strips to bolt the box down properly instead of just with washers. Don't want it coming loose and flying round!!!! Starting to look like it looks in my head now

Hi, new member just to write on this really like what you've done with your 205, i myself have a 1.9 and a 1.6, (the 1.6 has a hell of a lot of engine mods so its actually quicker than the 1.9 hah) but i was just wondering, what did you spray the bumpers with to get them from grey to black? cause on my 1.9 they were grey and i used forever black, which came off shortly after (total waste) and then i used boot polish with wd40 over it to lock it in and that survived a fair amount of time until i was washing it with a pressure washer and it came off again :/ and now i wana get the 1.6 bumpers black and i wana do it right FIRST TIME lol

Hi Ben90. Well, I cheated a bit! I sanded them down with some scotchbrite just to get a key and them primered and sprayed them with satin black Not sure how long it will last, and I'm sure I'll find out the first time I wash it There are a few small scratches already, so it's not bomb proof! Looks good though. There's another update to come, just need to download the pics. What's the sketch with the 1.6? I plan to rebuild the 1,6 engine from mine at some stage, supposedly they are move free revving? but need to get this one out of the garage first!! Thanks for the comments

Yeah, I did give the heat gun a quick bash, but to be honest they were grey to start with and didn't suit the look I'm going for, hence the paint. Peanut butter's supposed to be pretty good as well apparently as well as hot linseed oil.

Cheers Dave, next job is to fit a new rear brake cylinder as one of them has a knackered bleed nipple thread. Got to the point of getting the drum off but after stabbing myself with a screwdriver I thought it was a good time to stop! I've turned the battery box round and run the cables so we have power but the battery was dead I still need to fit the arches on the other side but have no power to the garage so it's all a bit dark and damp in there now. Not too much left to do now! How's the van coming on?

MY wife is a star!!!! As some of you know I'm having a new garage built, and the Pug had to come out or be destryed in the process (It crossed my mind!) It was parked out the front and I even bought a nice cover for it. As a birthday treat though my wife and neighbour (who runs the local garage) marked up where it was parked and took it off to his garage to finish of the mechanical bits (Get it running, fill and bleed the brakes, and a few other little bits) the plan being to bring it back before I got home Sadly they needed a bit which I had stashed away so the cat was out of the bag, it's still in the garage, hopefully it'll be up and running for the weekend What an absolute star though, I'm a lucky man Oh, pics to follow of it in the daylight for the first time in about two years!

Indeed I am a lucky guy! Well, yes and no....... It has been but now needs a new battery. Just turfing out the garage over the next week and then I'll have a push on it, but the Merc needs some little jobs doing first Things left to do..... Tighten anti roll bar bushes Fill gearbox oil Lower rear beam (This is one I've been putting off but I can't put it off any longer!) Fit wheel arch extensions on the LHS Refurb alloys Clean and polish! Refit badges (if I can find them!) MOT Rag round a track somewhere!! And a pic on it's first visit outside in two years

So, had some time off, and having spent a load of time in the garage (and some in the garden ) I finally got round to pulling the car from under its cover and giving it a good clean. Hadn't really thought about it before, but we seem to have a thing for black cars The moment of truth arrived, I'd got a new battery, fitted it and...... It's alive That'll be the exhaust blowing a bit then!, and it's a bit smoky! Hardly surprising really, it last ran about 2 1/2 years ago and still has the same petrol in the tank (And they say petrol goes off!) After that, I ran it round the back of the house and back into the new garage Chuffed to bits. Jobs to do now...... Adjust clutch pedal sort blowing exhaust Tighten front anti roll bar bushes Fill gearbox oil Lower rear beam (This is one I've been putting off but I can't put it off any longer!) Fit wheel arch extensions on the LHS Refurb alloys Done, collecting them next week Clean and polish! Refit badges ( if I can find them! just need a 1.6 badge now!) MOT Rag round a track somewhere!!

If you can make one of these it will make the job a lot easier: And don't underestimate how much a blowtorch will help loosen off the bars. I was really struggeling with a 306 beam, the bars just wouldnt free off so i blasted the trailing arm surrounding the torsion bar and it freeed off in about 5 mins ;D

Ok, what's the spec mate? Size and threads etc. Reckon I could knock up something like that, especially if it'll make it easier

it's an M20 set screw and full nut. A 15mm deep M8 hole in the end with a stud wound in (don't locktite them in as you may snap a few and they need to be as easy to remove as possible) And use 12.9 grade M8 screws.
Can't remember the spec of the tube as it was just a bit of scrap but i welded on a 10mm thick steel disc
Fairly easy to make and saves loads of hassle, you can get the bolt nice and tight against the bar, making loads of tension, then blast it with the blowtorch and they just fall out ;D

If they are anything like 106 beams, I have a lot of success with hitting things very very very hard with a lump hammer and half an old torsion bar as a "drift". One person holds the drift against the end of the bar, and the other chap can get a good full swing at the end of it. We didn't use any heat and lowered he back of my 17 year old 106 in under an hour, including drilling and tapping a couple of holes.
A combination of a puller on one end, a lot of wellying on the other end and a bit of heat (I avoid it where possible so I don't melt the seals) will eventually free anything!

They are different to 106 beams. The end of a 106 beam is open do you can drift it out bu tthe 205 beam...and many others...is capped so all you can see if the adjuster screw. If you hit the screw you'll bend it and then the bar will be going nowhere, game over.

Cool, good to know. I'll put one of those together when I get home next. I do have a spare beam sitting in the garden, think its from a 1.9, does that mean the torsion bars will be thicker? I can use it to practice on if nothing else, Then if I break it it's not so important
