So now it's fingers crossed that the engine makes it there and back because it's starting to sound a bit bottom endy. KFW said he's made it his mission to make sure I get there even if it means driving out to find me with spare engine which he's going to lift in by himself. BY HIS SELF! Engine swap in the camping field, anyone? ;D Hmm. What are the chances of finding an engine in the scrapyard on the Saturday?

You'll be towed in if necessary and it'll be all hands on deck. Have faith J - all will be well. If I can attempt from Brussels on a wing and a prayer - you'll be fine See you next week (I may have to set off THIS weekend though ;D)

I've been through and replaced all the pictures. That was a bit of a mission!
Slight delay getting the car back because the wheels weren't ready from the powdercoaters, so I'm picking it up tomorrow instead. W00T!
And I think a bottle of Slick 50 is probably in order to prolong the engine a bit...!

And a cheeky bit of colour sanding. What a horrible job - now I've started it I don't think it's going to be done by the weekend. Ah well

Read the entire topic last night. Awesome car! Respect for keeping at it with the setbacks you've had. The result is great!

Sat down after a day on the Mini and thought i had it hard. Mate, how you've carried on i don't know, glad you did though as it looks fantastic. If mine comes out half as good i'm onto a winner.

Excellent! Can't wait to see you and the car at RRG2012, Tried our ginger beer today, much much drier than last year and seems to be rather strong too! Infact, do you have a hydrometer you could bring with you? It would be good to see how strong it has brewed up to J

That's me done for the day I think. Cheers for the offers for help waxing at the weekend - I've had a few offers on Facebook too, so hopefully a couple of us can make light work of it doing a little bit each. I'll have it cut back so it'll just be a wax job James, yep, I've got a hydro. I'll try and remember to pack it. I didn't comment on the handling. I've swapped the front tyres from a 175/50 to a 185/55, which is the size I always used to have on the car until Yokohama stopped making that size. The 175/50 was always too harsh for this car and too low profile. The sidewalls were rock solid and they didn't grip well. These new Toyos are just like the old Yokohamas. Not quite as square in section but nice and soft in the sidewalls, which suits a light car like this. The understeer is eliminated and it soars round bends like I've never had it do before. So chuffed. We also stuck a caliper round the rear rims because Paul said they looked a bit wider than the fronts when they were off. Turns out my rears are 6J Lotus steels!

OK checked stock - 3/4 bottle of dodo juice lime prime (fine cutting compound) and almost a full jar of my favorite dodo juice wax (orange crush)
Anyone got a machine polisher and I'll bring a genny

I've got a Makita sander/polisher - I'll stick it in the car! No idea what I'm doing with it though because I haven't really done much polishing before! It seems to have come up quite well with the G3 though. I'll hopefully get the doors done today and some way into the flipfront. Depends on time, what with the marathon and closing ceremony later

Progress! Yesterday I used the sander/polisher and Farecla G3 on the roof and boot lid. Today I waxed both and improved the shine considerably. It's not great, but it's not far off. I also wet sanded, G3 and waxed the flipfront. Work in progress on the front. See one side is still matte from sanding and the other partially shiny from the G3: Waxed the left hand side of the flipfront: And finished: I'm loving the smooth feeling. Off now for a quick drive

Looks great Jon, but try G10 after the G3, then 3M Finesse it for a really high shine.

Looking really good Jon. 6J wheels probably handy to hang on to as a retirement fund
