Hi all, Purchased this at the weekend. It appears solid but I have not had chance to get it over a pit yet. It's all in working order and is going to be my daily driver so no ridiculous modifications. Mainly supension and prettying it up, but I would like it to fast road spec. Only 77K on the clock from new.
As I am new to Amazons, I'm a Ford man in the main, I need as much help and advice as possible please.
Parts/info needed: New front bumper. All new seals for everything. They are all cracking up. New interior light. Overdrive unit. Twin carbs and manifold. Washer bottle Seat belts. I need to fit new inertia reel ones due to work. Which ones fit straight in? Wheels, What PCD are they? What can fit as standard? Can the standard engine be used on unleaded or does it need additives? More to follow.
How do I post pictures?
Cheers James

Hi, look forward to seeing it, I'm sure paulh will be along in a mo, what he don't know about Amazons aint worth knowing. As for the wheel pcd they are 5 x 114.3 (4.5) so american ford stud pattern, your choices are endless ;D

Yay! I was hoping it was American 5 stud PCD. Does anyone sell bolt on coilover upgrades for these?

Hi & welcome! Hi all, Purchased this at the weekend. It appears solid but I have not had chance to get it over a pit yet. If you want a list of areas to check, let me know It's all in working order and is going to be my daily driver so no ridiculous modifications. Mainly supension and prettying it up, but I would like it to fast road spec. Only 77K on the clock from new. For a fast road daily driver, you want twin SUs, D cam, Simons sports exhaust & o/d box. Given that you're after twin carbs & o/d, then I suspect that you have a B18 single carb with A cam. If the engine is good (with the mileage that you mention, it is just about run-in!), then it's a case of new cam, steel timing gears (the factory fitment fibre tipped ones can break up) & then the manifolds etc as described below. Fitting a B20 won't give you much extra power & it's not quite as free revving, but the gains are in the extra torque ;D Parts/info needed: New front bumper. All new seals for everything. They are all cracking up. New interior light. Overdrive unit. Twin carbs and manifold. Washer bottle Seat belts. I need to fit new inertia reel ones due to work. Which ones fit straight in? For new parts, I'd recommend Brookhouse Volvo Parts in Ipswich or CVI Automotive in Sweden. IIRC all the seals are still available (parts supply for Amazons is generally pretty good). Otherwise, most is available secondhand. I'd try to get a set of carbs that are already on an inlet manifold, as that way they should also have all the linkages etc. Avoid this type of manifold, as the consensus is that they are pretty useless. The one to have the separate alloy inlet & a twin downpipe exhaust like this but with the integral single carb inlet ground off. O/ds can be expensive, but if you bide your time, a sensibly priced one should crop up. However you will also need the matching gearbox (identified by the M41 tag (as opposed to M40), longer output shaft and higher oil filler plug), shorter propshaft and a few other bits & pieces. Can the standard engine be used on unleaded or does it need additives? Not 100% sure, but the consensus seems to be that it's the valve guides that suffer from unleaded rather than the seats, so an additive would be worthwhile. clicky Also worth joining the Volvo OC forum, as there is a very active Amazon section

Wow thanks Paul. I will give a better response later. But I have now ordered a Sports Exhaust from Brookhouse. What sort of price would I be looking at for a twin carb set up with manifold, linkage and all other items to bolt on. As I have been offered one for £125 and don't know if that was a good price or not.

Price for the carbs seems fine to me, provided that they are complete & in good order. Is the inlet the alloy one too?
Exhaust - Simon at Brookhouse is very good, so has probably already sorted it out correctly, but which version did you get? Saloons have a very different over the axle pipe to estates (rest is the same), and there are two different types of downpipe, depending on which exhaust manifold you have. The factory cast iron twin downpipe manifold that I linked to above is meant to flow really well (not quite as good as a tubular manifold but not far off). You may already have this type (can't remember when & what applications that they were factory fitment) though, but that matched to the Simons is a very good combination.

Don't know if the inlet is the alloy one. I'm awaiting pictures. I think my inlet is the combined exhaust and inlet for the single SU with the twin down pipe. If I get the twin carbs I will get a tubular exhaust to mate to the sports exhaust. I double checked with Simon and got the estate version and that it would retro fit to the manifold at a later date so hopefully all will be ok.

front seatbelts are a bolt in job...I replaced the static belts with interia reels from a vw transporter I think.....You need to check that they are long enough in operation.... Rears, esp in the estate are trickier...Saloon has top fixing already in place, needs a few holes drilled for the other mounts. look here..... www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=25776&highlight=seat+belts+estate

'Tis indeed you wont find a grill like that mate, that ones hand made by the owner(as is pretty much every other panel and part of that particular motor), smartest amazon in the world IMHO. The grilles on that Amazon look like the type fitted to the very earliest models (see piccy above), and are very rare now. Even if you were to find a set of those grilles, you'd also need the matching front panel.

Cheers Paul. Now where can I find one of them? Sports exhaust turned up today. What a lovely bit of kit. Will put it on the weekend and stick some pics up. So far spent 9 hours polishing the chrome and I have only done half of it.
