Saw one the other day (yeah, big deal... not really rare or anything...) BUT, I did begin to think that I actually like them. Definitely a future classic! OK, so they have the usual Rover problems but there's just something I really like about them! Should I seek help?

I like 'em! but I seem to be biased towards BL/Rover products.
If you get one, make sure you've got plenty of head gaskets ready for the inevitable oil pissage from the front of the block. Nice car though.

I have had several of these, mainly turbo,s they can scare impreza drivers silly. 280 BHP with touching the inside of the engine. I love em.

never really noticed them until PPC did an article on them, wouldn't be my choice of transport looks to much like the 200/400 to be of interest

Rover 220 turbo coupe. Most actually were brought back from Japan where they were mainly sold. That is simply not correct at all. A great car all the same however. I get enthusiastic about the non-sporting rover 200’s of this shape, even the K-series 1.4 multipoint injection one, which revs like a bandit and is fantastic fun to drive, and the Honda 1.6 twincam-powered one is even revvier and absolutely flies! Quality! You can also get a 1.8 k-series engine in them, never tries one but I bet they are cool. Dunno if they are the 120bhp or the 143bhp variable-valve-timed job.

Tomcat was the development name if I remember right... I think they are great looking cars, but I've read many reviews criticising muchos torque steer... I had a 216 hatch for a while, which whilst being thoroughly uninspiring to drive was well screwed together and didn't let me down, despite not having a service for 50,000 miles!

Yeah I understand the handling is a bit wayward on the high-powered versions…. It is a poxy Honda concerto chassis under there after all! Designed with about 130bhp max in mind!

I had one. Nasty nasty torque steer. nasty. Overall a nice car though, especially the groovy roof. Twin sunroofs or a t-bar, or a targa, depending on your mood and tolerance to windnoise..... Did I mention the nasty torque steer?

They had a healthy race series at one point, as did the GTi hatch that Darren had. My Dad was driving a Rover 414 at the time.

I have always thought that the "Tomcats" were good looking cars. Never driven though so cant comment on that.

I know someone who had one, not a bad car, didn't do much for me, but it was a good enough little car, I reckon that'll be retro in a few years time.
