These have got very rare on the sly, always a worry when a work in progress goes missing, peolpe who don't know cars might just assume no-ones going to be missing it because its rusty even if it turns up intact on wasteland somewhere and just not bother ringing the cops. Frustrating to think that this could well be parked up somewhere just not being found - literally a lost car.

Hi, I am the owner of the car in question. I have to say a big thanks to ministrone and everyone else who has been posting my original plea all over the net, including here (I was unaware of this forum until I was directed here by someone else).
I have been searching for the car. Unfortunately I was overseas when it was stolen last Thursday so until I got back on Monday I wasn't really able to do much to try and track it down.
I have been phoning race track operators, scrap metal dealers, and breakers. So far I have had no luck. I have been pointed to some possible scrapmetal/breakers in the local area but haven't been able to get contact info.
Does anyone know the contact info for berkshire spares?, A1 in Woking, or a scrap dealer in Iver? These have been suggested to me as possible destinations for my car.
I don't think it was stolen to joyride as two of the tires had gone flat from sitting while I was away. Also, it had been parked in the same spot for a couple of months so it is likely that whoever stole it
I would like to point out to those of you who are down on banger racing, that the track operators I have contacted so far have been very helpful. However, I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether there are any tracks that have a reputation for dodgy dealing.
alistairk and vicsmith, you guys are right about this being a rare car. The fact that it was a GLS, with a webasto sunroof and that it had little or no previous welding made it very rare and very special. In fact I would have care much less if they had swiped my daily driver minx.
Oh well I'll just keep looking and praying.

I think Berkshire Car Spares now trade as Dunaways: Dunaways The Copse, Eversley Rd, Arborfield Cross, Reading, Berkshire RG2 9PN Tel: 0118 976 1541 ...although they may be separate companies. I was there a few weeks back myself. Good luck with the search.

Its official. The police are completely useless. There is a council-owned CCTV camera down the street from our flat that points almost directly at our driveway. I've narrowed down the time period when the car was likely stolen to approximately one hour, but the police refuse to look at it unless it is narrowed down to a 10 minute period. Imbeciles. They still haven't clued in either that it was likely hauled or towed away - they keep telling me that just because the video may show my car being driven away, they might not be able to identify who is driving it. I've explained approximately two or three times that the car was likely on a truck or trailer and that they should be able to get a good description of that vehicle or even its number plate. As for the time period, presumably they wouldn't have to watch that long, since they could fast forward until they see a truck pull into the drive of my flat, then fastforward until it leaves with my car on it. IMBECILES!!!

Luckily I have just been hired at a local solicitor's office so I will ask my boss to write the council requesting the tape for the entire day so that we can identify the suspects in order to trace the car/ start civil proceedings.

good luck. Next you'll get that the CCTV is inadmissible or the cops just can't be bothered.

Excellent work mrAbody.
The fugging police are a right disgrace, what a shower of tw@ts. What is the batsard point of having CCTV cameras watching everyones movements if they can't be bothered to watch the footage when somethign happens? Utterly shameful.

I know it's not a high priority crime like murder or driving at 31mph at 2.00am but every police force that's involved with these classic thefts show no willing to even scratch the surface to find out what is going on...grrr it really grinds my gears! Hope you find it in one piece soon

Got a reply from the council today. We were too late requesting the video and it was re-recorded.
Oh well, time for hatemail to the Chief Constable for the Surrey Police telling him he and his men are a disgrace for letting evidence be destroyed.
curse word!!

where abouts in surrey are you? I was just wondering if there's any connection with the thefts from my area. We right on the border, Mitcham across the other side of high road already surrey. Also can we have a pic of this avenger, I'm ashamed to say I don't know what one looks like and I am covering a lot of ground around Streatham, Norbury, Tooting, Mitcham and there are some things dumped and set on fire at the back of some council estates. I thought your idea about starting something up to co-ordinate these theft tracings was a good one and I'm prepared to help you with it. I'm doing some mailings to some breakers in South London (I've got a list) next week if you want to email me your flier I'll put it in too. Sorry, its taken a whole month for me to figure out how to post replies on here (DOH!) I appreciated you advice on the other thread about my anglia estate. If you get a chance read the long rant I've done on the 105speed site on the thread about stolen maroon estate, the latest rant about the insurance that is and let me know what you think. I shan't bother repeating it here.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of my Avenger. I bought it in the spring with the intention of fixing it up. However here's some good photos of an Avenger just to familiarize yourself: retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1159123198&page=1Mine looked similar to this, including having a vinyl roof. It was white and a little tatty. It also had twin round headlights instead of the single rectangular ones, and it also had a webasto style sunroof. I'll update my flyer and email it to you later today. I have a list of breakers and scrapyards as well if you would like to send me a flyer for your car as well. I also have a list of banger track contacts if you would like that as well. I already mailed out a bunch of letters to them. Drew

Drew there's one for sale on pedigree-automobiles.co.uk for £600 if you want another project, it has the square headlights though and no sunroof. Looks quite tidy.
Can you email me the banger track contacts and scrap yards and do you still want to send your flyer for the mailing I'm doing.
Here are some more of my ideas
1. Ask your local sorting office if they will put a flyer on the staff notice boards. Ours did it but we know them very well as we collect special delivery from there every day. If you get a good person who likes cars they might do it. The drivers cover the whole local area so if they don't spot it its not out there locally. 2. Ditto the bin men. I stuck one on each of my bins with a reward on it.
3. I stuck a flyer round the lamp-post right outside the local police station's canteen. Its still there 2 weeks later and I didn't get any fine for defacing street furniture or anything yet.
All of the above has led me to believe that its not in the local area. I suppose you could try other police station lamp posts and sorting offices.

I popped into Clarkes breakers in Grantham today and they had a complete and suprisingly decent looking Avenger GLS in white with a black vinyl roof. Not yours though as it's a late one but it might be worth an ask to see if they'd sell it. It looked like the typical old duffers car and although it had a bit og rust here and there it was well worth saving. Under the bonnet the engine bay was mint (only had 50-odd thousand on the clock I think) and the interior was decent too. I took some pics with my phone. if I can get them off it I'll post them up. In the meantime, this is the place that had it... www.clarkscarbreakers.co.uk/-Ed
