One thing worth bearing in mind is that car thieves will be reading these forums too. I've heard numerous accounts of thefts carried out using information taken from the internet - forums in particular.
I know it's pretty obvious once you think about it, but it is easy to forget this point and inadvertently give too much information about your location and what cars/equipment you have.
For a thief watching the forum, it wouldn't be too difficult to gradually gain enough information to pinpoint and steal stuff from some of us, such is our enthusiasm for discussing our cars and posting pictures of what we have got.

if they read these forums they will also know the lengths we will go to stop them and the risks that they would be taking or what will happen to them if they are caught in the act of trying to steal stuff from us .

Yes, and unfortunately that will make little difference to them if they see something they want.
I'm just highlighting the risks of advertising what you own and where you are, in case anyone has overlooked the possible consequences.

Got to agree with Mike on this, its all too easy to give away too much without even realising it. Even removing reg numbers from pics is a must IMO as even this is enough for some lowlife to "clone" your cars ID and cause you grief. Lets be carful out there peeps!

Valid point, 425ci.
When I look at the posts on RR, all I see are the cars and the engineering/passion that went into them, but I'm sure you're right that some of the lowlife that stumble through here, just say 'I know where that is....'
I used to work on my car with roller shutter up. I don't anymore.
Sad ain't it.

Which is why the only time I discuss my location openly is when I'm talking about my old house LOL.
TBH anyone wantering past must know "the house with that huge garage and the yank cars".
I don't see much point in blanking my number plates as who's going to "clone" a '65 Oldsmobile?
But I did read a couple of threads on other forums where thieves had done exactly this to steal cars off members. There was one on an American RX7 forum whee they guy had gone to extreme lenghts...
And, yes, not being funny, but they do know what will happen to them: absolutely nothing.
Theres been three reports of stolen cars here wheich have ended with the car being on the trackor prepped for it. It has been identified where the car ended up so it should be possible to find out how it got there. So did anyone "send the boys around"? No they did not.
And to be honest do you want to start a p!ssing war with the kind of people who break in your unit? They know where you keep your stuff, the probably know where you live...
A mate of my ex came home to find his house being burgled. One of them came up to him calm and cocky and said "describe us to the law and we'll burn your house down with you and your family in it".

I agree. This forum is open to all and sundry.
For any scum reading this, my garage is packed FULL of expensive cars and tools but be warned. My garage is in the centre of Daventry and is cunningly disguised as a Police Station. Don't let that put you off though!

Well in my opinion they know what they're getting themsleves into messing with another guys pride and joy so they cant complain if their face gets kicked in.
Theyl thank you later! Better than getting arrested and having your face kicked in by the police.

don't worrie the threats I make to scum like this are not idle ones I would do time for killing/maiming an intruder without worrie or consiance as I said before anyone found tring to break in and steal from me lost any human rights the second the they attempt it they are lower than the lowest form of life and there is no excuse for this type of thing so i'm sorry if what I say may upset some but i'm just pointing out how I feel and what my actions would be if I were to catch the culprits end of Damn stright!!! Feel the exact same way!!!

Gotta agree totally, found a couple of little swines taking too much interest in my 2CV a little while ago, and if i had got there five minutes later i would have to have hurt them, very badly.

425 Ci makes a good point - based on this I`ve just got rid of my avatar as it possibly shows a bit much of my place. The trick when dealing with scrotes who you have caught in the act or who are hassling, threatening you etc. is to find out where they live before any recriminations on your part, thus removing their advantage. Its the easiest thing in the world for these spineless pussies to threaten to come back later and burn everything down etc. but once you make it known to them that you know where they like to try and sleep and feel secure that makes it way too fair for their comfort. Follow them if necessary.

simple message to thieves.... "If you want what I've got make me an offer I can't refuse. Failing that, go out and buy one. If you can't afford it save up, I had to." Finally, if you choose to come stealing my stuff, good luck. It's protected be a pair of armed guards! (No I'm not kidding either )

"i felt that he was going to attack me and I defended myself with the first (heaviest) thing that I grabbed" - self defence. who they going to believe? a burglar or you? edit. thats only if you catch them in the act. not if you hunt them down and stove their teeth down their neck! I've had a policeman say to me that if I have to defend myself in my own home, to hit them one as hard as you possibly can, with whatever you want. Basically in court you're asked to justify every occasion you hit them... once isn't going to be a problem, even if it's enough to kill them with a hammer. Twenty blows to the head and you'll do time. You have to show you didn't 'lose it' and it was just enough to prevent them harming you. I don't tell people where I live, but I haven't got a garage - my car is more likely to be taken as it's parked on the driveway, but it's also right in front of a house covered with a security lamp. If anyone is reading this, it's a deathtrap as I've been monkeying with the fuel lines, and all my tools are curse word cash'n'carry jobs.

One of my cars has an extensive alarm system on it. It won't stop them from removing the car if they really want it (not that it's worth the hassle) but will make it as uncomfortable as possible for them. It's just a pitty that if you take these things too far (the cars defences) then the law goes against you. So the dead locking and cyanide/mustard gas canister will have to go.

Wonder if an "ON TOW" sign in the back window might be enough to make your average tea leaf move onto the next one? You could park at a slight angle with the wheels turned a bit so it looks like you`ve struggled with a dead car. Might be one to try if you`ve ever got to leave a car overnight somewhere where you feel its particularily at risk.
