Neat! Mini tiki heads are very cool. Too fragile for gear shift? Any going spare?

Neat! Mini tiki heads are very cool. Too fragile for gear shift? Any going spare? the mini Tikis are shot glasses, trinket pots and cocktail stick holders.I make them for fish tanks too.I see no reason why you can't make a solid ceramic shifter knob, never thought about it before.sadly,I'm not in a position to make these on a commercial basis they are just a hobby.I'm looking into getting a small kiln at home so I can produce them for sale in the future.

My class was working out £10 for a 3 hour slot, not very commercial for making to sell, which isn't why I was there. Gearknob is a great idea! how would you do it,? cos it would shrink. put a nut in there with it in the kiln, leave a big hole for a rubber bunged threaded nut type thing? or summat else?

what about making it round a metal tube, then once baked, just tap the tube out to the correct thread??

Gearknob is a great idea! how would you do it,? cos it would shrink. put a nut in there with it in the kiln, leave a big hole for a rubber bunged threaded nut type thing? or summat else? my biggest worry would be trapped moisture or air bubbles in the clay.solid objects can explode in the kiln if they aren't dried properly or have bubbles in them.I think the best way to get around the issue of fitting a ceramic gear knob would be to air dry the work with a pre made hole around the right size then bore it out enough to take a rubber sleave ie; some fuel pipe allowing for any aditional shrinkage.once its properly dry the clay won't skrink a great deal in the kiln but it would be best to go oversized, you can always fill the hole with resin then drill it after its fired.

''Too fragile for gear shift?'' asked seth,''only time will tell!'' replied MR TIKI. inspired by the 5 little words above from seth I've been experimenting. wet clay prototype TIKI shifter. dried, etched, buffed and ready for the kiln. its now being fired........
