All being well, once I get the Merc finished I'd like to make a few appearances at RWYB events. Are helmets required, or is that just for open-top cars? I saw lots of cars running at RCS last year with no helmets but I remember them saying your windows have to be up and you need long sleeves. If you do need a helmet, does it have to be up to super-high standards or will a regular crash helmet do? I wouldn't mind wearing one anyway, just in case things did go tits up and I had a meeting with an armco (heaven forbid!), but I wouldn't want to look like some w@nker that's taking himself too seriously - I'd want to do drag racing purely for the fun of it, I'm not in any way competitive!

Ah, thanks slater! Found it....
"Helmets required for bikes and open top cars and vehicles doing 100 mph or more at the finish line. Arm straps required in open top cars."
100mph 1/4 mile... that's high 12s ain't it? Well, I'd be well chuffed if I was running 12s!!!

If you end up buying a helmet make sure that you get one with a BS certification or a Snell certification. These are the only standards eligable for MSA run motorsport events, there not any more expensive but it'd be a shame to buy a helmet that's not eligible (like I did!).

Well, I'd be well chuffed if I was running 12s!!! so i wont be needing a bash hat when i assault the strip at rcs hoping for 17s, but i actually have no idea what il manage to run. doesnt really matter cos it'll sound mint ;D ;D ;D however there is a personal grudge match against my mate sal, she thinks she'll be quicker (in my car). i think not!(il set the shift lite to 3.5k and tell her to change when it flashes, then set it to 4.5 when i do my run) ;D ;D ;D
