No worries Jef - no one would have known as it was all smoothed with filler, lol. Bit better than the painted brake discs. ;-) And I can't afford the stupendous price for a new one at the minute, most will be under the spoiler anyway so I'll tidy it up properly and make it look ok. :-) Never thought about the grill MIB - will see about changing that and keep at least some "period" features. Gave the spring from the driver's side a bit of a working over today: Not come out too bad.

Yep, knotted wire wire in the grinder Jef. :-) Long sleeves, ear protection, gloves and a full face shield - worth it when you hear a wire pinging off that would have stuck in your face otherwise, they hurt enough through jeans.
It's a bit noisy so trying to keep it to a couple of hours every afternoon to keep the neighbours on side as it were.

Jaymic used to modify new front panels by welding in the narrower section. Deffo worth the effort as I think it looks odd having a late grill with early, round back lights. Nice work with the spring!

Not much to show for today just more filler and shonky old welding. :-( Looking like a new panel would be less hassle and work by about 200%...

Loving the speakers! Glad to see your still making progress. I've been offered these uber rare seats that I reckon would look great in your car. [/quote]

Thought I'd change the oil seeing as I had some new stuff which as usual turns into another extra job or two rather than a simple ten minute job. From the state of this lot I'm glad I've only ever run the engine for about 5 minutes in total... not very good. Gave the cannister thing a clean up ready for a new coat of paint. Got a new centre bit for the exhaust as the old one was shot at one end and looked nothing like the ones I've seen either with a massive box at one end. Back box and downpipe are ok so gave the backbox a freshen up, might flake or burn off even being hi temp paint but looks good for now, lol.

Well done for doing up one of my favorite cars. I know yours is not a turbo but I like the plain ones as well. On my top-10 dream cars list is the 2002 turbo The other interesting thing about these beemers is that the most powerful ever Formular 1 engine was based on the 1500cc block. It was of course majorly worked over and had a massive turbo, but thats how the story goes.

Today I was mostly breaking things again... Removing the exhaust downpipe studs as I'd got some new ones to refit my exhaust. One was actually a bolt so managed to get that one off. The other were stuck fast (I've been spraying them for about a week with release fluid). Tried to put two nuts on them but there's no space for a spanner etc to tighten the top nut, so decided to weld them on. One broken the weld, the other the nuts stripped the threads then broke from the weld, hmmm. Decided the get some stud extraction sockets, managed with some blow torch action to get one out. Second one broke the 10mm extractor but was worn down by now enough to get the 8mm one on it, that promptly snapped it clean off, . There's curse word all room to get the drill it so decided I'd remove some more suspension bits to help access. More split pins and castleated nuts fused solid that I ended up cutting off. I'll try to get the drill to it and then get a set of threaded extractors so I can snap one of those off in it too. :-) Still keeps me busy, I guess. Oh and with all the hammering half a dozen eaten hazelnuts fell out of the chassis rail along with a kg or two of rust, where's the mojo loss smilie...

Glad to see this car is still being worked on. I fell your pain, some days all you do i break bits. I've just binned about half stuff from my new shell, all of it was rusted into place and needed to be cut off. If you take the steering shaft out, top strut bolts and the 6 in the sub fame it all all drop out motor and all (after you take the gear box out that is). That should save you time with fiddling around with some of the bits.
Cheers

This thing is a real labour of love! Keep the mojo up man, it may seem like theres little progress at times, but when it starts coming together, it will really come together fast if you've done the ground work!
