Ive got a set of allegro rims I want blasting and spraying in wheel silver. Ive been quoted £35 per wheel by my usual blasters which I think is too much! Can anybody here recommend a good cheap blaster? Whats the going rate for a 13" steel rim?

if you spray them yourself it will be easier. very simple job, especially without tyres!

£50? wow! maybe ive got a good price then. Its still £175 for 5 wheels though... thats alot of dosh.
The tyres are off so perhaps I could have a go myself, I could use the PC guide that was in the other month!

That was for alloys not steels though, not sure if that makes a difference.

Get yo'self a selection of wire brush tools.
Tis how I did mine and they came out looking pretty good.

Where I work we charge £15 a rim for blasting, and £25 a rim for blasting AND powdercoating, pity you're not a bit closer! Where do you work? It's £35 where I am :< |

I work in a tiny wee hamlet in the Kentish countryside, we make kids playgrounds etc, but as everything we do has to be powdercoated and zinc primed, we open up that part of the business and take on little jobs here and there to keep the painter and blaster busy, its not part of our main business, but all the money we make from it goes into the christmas fund and pays for our teabags etc!

try chemical dipping to strip them, i use sandwell stripping at around a fiver per rim or tenner per panel, chemical dipping to strip paint , pickleing to remove rust and oiling to prevent rusting till they are sprayed . oiling is removed with thinners.

Not the best job but I was just making them better to get new tyres on to tide me over. Knotted wire wheel on the angle grinder and assorted wire brushes on the drill plus a bit of emery cloth. Zinc primered then top coat of Halford's Steel Wheel spray.   |
