I feel like I've neglected RR for the past few weeks (sorry!) Right the long and the short of it, is the sierra has eaten its cambelt! The belt has not snapped instead the crank pulley/gear has simply spun round and ripped all the teeth off the belt I was doing about 30 mph and like an idiot cranked the bloody thing over and over trying to get it started again! There was a small sound like keys jangling, is this simply the sound of the belt or it is the valves bending? Right there are a few things I need help with............ Firstly is the 2.0 EFi pinto a contact or non-contact engine? a ex-ford mechanic at college seemed to think the standard 2.0 pinto was okay? is it worth sticking another belt on and seeing what happens or am I the owner of an load of bent valves? Any feedback or advice is welcomed ;D

2.0 is no contact. whack a belt on it and go. I keep a spare and the two spanners/molegrips in the boot if I'm running a pinto. saves on walking ;D

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Don't forget to time up the cam again!

Autodata seems to think the 2.0 is fine but the 1.6 and 1.8 Pinto should be interference.

I *think* they are non-interference engines. I'm prepared to be flamed though. How is it since your little bump anyway?

Thanks scary and everyone else, I feel much better about it now! Don't forget to time up the cam again! Thats no problem LOL, its the fact I check to see if there was a spark, no spark of course! So I took the cap off the dizzy, the rotor arm did not spin, so like an idiot I removed the dizzy thinking it was the dizzy cam or shaft, which although not turning looked fine, that when I realised it was the bloody belt! WHAT A D!CK, now I have to do the ignition timing as well as the engine timing too. Still I guess it probably needed looking at anyway ;D

It can become a contact engine if you have high lift cams for example.

Thanks for the help guys, there was a new cambelt on the shelf at work, £3 on trade However I did end up buying a gear/pulley puller which cost £15. The car runs fine even if the ignition timing is well out, need to borrow a timing light from college! Bearing in mind this is the first proper cambelt change, i've done in situ on a working engine I am happy with the result, even if it took me a good 3 hours! I did end up ring Cheeqi for a bit of advice (thanks mate) but other than that I have a new found love for my charity shop brought Haynes and Autodata workshop manuals.

Nice one mate it's one of those jobs that get easyer every time you do it, after 20 years you'll be able to do it in the dark with only 3 spanners and a screw driver
