I've read loads of people saying that the 1.7 and 1.5 Isuzu Turbo weasel engines are great and really easy to make faster.
But how easy is "really easy" and what exactly needs to be done?
Not for me but for a friend.
I've also heard reports of better MPG when the car has been tuned? Is This true? Is it likely?
Thanks ;D

I think its a case of 'turn the boost screw until the engine goes pop'. Then fit a new one and turn it slightly less....

How are liquid soap prices at the moment? I could spice it up with cheap lager?

Remember, boost makes no difference in a diesel, it's all about fuel control and the engine is smoke limited not detonation limited (a detonation limited diesel would be RUBBISH!)

Wonder how much lipo fat you would need to render and clarify to make it worth the while running a car on it.

Being a numpty, I have no knowledge of tuning them.
I do know that they KICK ASS though. My brother-in-law had a Cavalier with this lump in it, about a bazillion miles on it, ran on everything: chip fat, red, old oil, vaseline (JKS), whatever. It got used and abused by everyonr for trailer tugging, airport runs, holidays, fannying about on wet grass, tip trips, the lot. It could not be killed. Amazing.

My dear old ma had a Astra with the soozu lump, obviously totally bog standard, and that was pretty quick to start with! And then one of my ex's had a 1.5TD Corsa which was hideous to look at, but a real hoot to drive. Had some kind of issue with the wastegate though which led to amusing 'pow!' noises on liftoff. A quick peek on autotrader sees plenty of other sub-£500 examples.

I have been looking for more info on this engine so this is all very interesting. I plan to replace my normally aspirated 1.7 with the TD in my Vauxhall Combo.
