i've got a fiberglass front splitter for the escort, a duckbill type.......
question is, its got maybe 3/4" lip as to where your meant to mount it to the body, it doesn't seem thick enough to take the weight of it let alone the amount of speedbumps i'll be running into with it ;D
question is, how shall i mount it? first idea was rivets with spreader washers, but i'm unsure tbh.
the idea i've got at the moment is to make some bigger right angle brackets out of metal, that will stick to the main part of the splitter, which i can then bolt onto the body of the car? i've been known to vastly over engineer things though ;D

If you're expecting to hit bumps etc, then some flexibility in the mounting process might be of benefit.

if your worried about it being to thin, just lay some more fiberglass on the back of it, or you could make a strip of ally, drill through it, the spoiler and the front valance and sandwich the splitter between that and the body work.

Personally I'd mount it from behind.... But only after being waxoiled.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

the rim is quite small so getting anything to mount it would be very hard. theres the obligatory inuendo out the way i can continue. thats the lip thats how i want it to be mounted, ignoring my pink socks if you please! anyway, fiberglass is pretty brittle, so my thinking was if i mounted it with a piece of alloy then it has a bit of flexibilty and it won't crack as easily

if you whack that on anything at all its gonna turn back into fibers in about 2 seconds flat (theres a reason most OE chin spoilers are made of rubbery stuff) having seen it now, id make up a couple off ally brackets and bond them to the back of it and then just screw them to the valance.

would those rods just cause drag...not very aerodynamic the extra drag is obviously outweighed by the ability to adjust the splitter, in much the same way the huge drag a formula one cars wing creates in a straight line is outweighed by the downforce it makes letting it corner loads faster.

Uhh, the way the hold the lip down gives the car more than enough downforce on the nose to counter any negative drag effect. Edit: ^ oh i see someone already covered it, that wasn't there when I replied, honest! PS, that looks tip top 79, nice choice!
