I can't really afford to fork out for one of the Sykes Pickavant heavy duty jobbies, especially as I only want to flare 4 pipes, so which are the ones to go for? I bought a rolson one like this for a tenner off ebay, and the flare press stripped its threads the first time I used it (on copper pipe) not happy. Are there any to be had around the £20 to £30 mark that actually work? Alternatively is there anyone local to me who can flare some pipes for me?

Have you not tried your local motor factor, as the ones around here make up the copper pipes very cheaply (even with the high price of copper)

Yeah tried that. I bought a 25m roll of copper pipe off em (7 quid - not bad) and he suggested I get a local garage to do the ends for me. That's not ideal though, as I need the one that runs from the servo to the back axle doing, and it's quite long!

I've had a look at machine mart, is this one any good? Seems to be the same design as the one that broke, but must be better quality?

Some Motorfactors a now refusing to do 'Brake pipes/piping' due to it being a 'Health and safety issue' apparantly!
True or not, a couple round where I live will NOT do them anymore.

I have the clarke one and have now done a few different pipes with it, thats including some steel pipe, the joins have been alright. I'm quite happy with it and am going to change the pipes on my anglia.

The types shown above are shocking, fiddly abominations that don't grip the pipe and fall apart when looked at... This is the type you want, mine (read bladeRunners) was £19 i think new from ebay

Agreed, and I will add that if you ever find one of these (pic below) keep it forever and never lend it out.

I've got a Laser version of the Clarke one and I think it's fine. Nice and easy to use and works well. Good if you're on a budget!
