Where I work we have just opened an old garage and found an old Silver Golf Gti in it. Hasnt been touched for 8 years. No number plates etc etc. I think its a mk1 as it has small bumpers and the black painted around the rear window. Is it worth me trying to send off to the dvla for it, or do you think its just nicked and hidden away. As such we have to actually pay to have it removed

Small bumpered MK1 GTI, should be a series 1. Very rare nowadays.

Personally I don't want it, or have the resources to pick it up. The Gti's ive had in the past I found uncomfortable (I have a bad back and find most German cars get me) and not overly fast. However I have lots of respect for them as they are a very big part of motoring history. I shall try to take some pics up this week for you all and let people see if they want it for free. However I would like to see it back on the road again in all its full glory rather than on E-Bay within the week.

Well it's a mk1, but a later one judging by the lights. not sure of exactly what sort of year range, very late 70's at a guess?
Definately worth something as it is, and would imagine if it's dry storage then the car should be pretty solid so has the capabilities to be a nice cheap resto!

I say definitely go for the logbook - someone will bite your arm off for it. How come I never find Mk1 golf Gtis in old garages?
My Dad used to have a silver one just like that, which dissapeared off the road not long after us selling it, according to the DVLA database. It would be brilliant if it turned out to be his old one! Post some more piccies up if you drag it out ;D

Yep that's a later one (1980?-1983) judging by the wraparound plastic bumpers and larger tail clusters.
You often see the later (larger tail light) models wearing the earlier metal bumpers now but as far as I know VW upgraded the bumpers before the tail lights - probably in '79.

3 should be £, typo. £100 cash thanks Bloody hell, I was gonna say! That'd be some serious scene tax and imposed by yourself too! What a find though. Gonna start jimmying open some garages methinks in the hope of getting a similar result!
